Another couple of weeks down in the Class of 2027 Paramedic Program! While students continue working hard in Tuesday and Thursday lectures and are now beginning their clinical rotations, they have also been busy continuing to build hands-on skills in the lab on Wednesdays.

Over the past few weeks, students have been practicing advanced airway management, medication calculations, IV therapy, medication administration, and many other critical paramedic skills. Great work by everyone as they continue progressing toward becoming future paramedics!

Earlier today, the Center for Emergency Medicine Paramedic Cohort and the University of Pittsburgh Emergency Medicine Junior Year Paramedic students were privileged to hear from John Moon, alongside Dr. Thomas Platt, on the history of EMS in the Pittsburgh region and the remarkable legacy of Freedom House Ambulance Service.

A special thank you to John Moon for sharing his firsthand knowledge, experiences, and passion for preserving the history of Freedom House. His insights provided our students with a unique connection to one of the most influential chapters in the development of modern EMS.

Thank you to both speakers for sharing their knowledge and helping inspire the next generation of EMS professionals.

Our 26 new Paramedic students are officially getting hands-on in lab!

This week in lab, students are building foundational skills through medication preparation, intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections. The students are also learning and practicing new airway management skills — including placement and use of KING and i-GEL supraglottic airways.

We’re excited to watch this group learn, grow, and take the next steps toward becoming paramedics! 🚑💉🫁
