We had a great night at PNC Park on Monday!

Our board member, Joe Lodovico threw out the ceremonial first pitch and the Bucs went on to win!

We're grateful to the Pittsburgh Pirates organization and this community for joining us as we support and sustain a home away from home for veteran and military families receiving care at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System .

Tonight, the Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House is honored to be part of the Pittsburgh Pirates game as we throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

We’re grateful to the Pirates organization for helping shine a spotlight on the mission of the Pittsburgh Fisher House and the military and veteran families we serve.

Every day, the Pittsburgh Fisher House provides a home away from home where military and veteran families can stay free of charge while a loved one receives medical treatment. Tonight is an opportunity to share that mission with the Pittsburgh community.

The Second Pittsburgh Fisher House is taking shape! 🏠

With framing well underway, we’re getting closer to an exciting milestone: the topping off of our new Fisher House.

Soon, the final beam will be placed, marking another step toward welcoming up to 16 additional military and veteran families each night. Every wall going up and every room taking shape represents more capacity to care for families who need a home away from home while a loved one receives medical treatment.

We’re grateful to everyone working to bring this House to life and 84 Lumber Company for sharing this incredible view of the progress!

Families come to the Pittsburgh Fisher House at a time of great uncertainty. There, right on the hospital campus, the House sits as a place of calm. A quiet room to rest, a kitchen where food is waiting, and a community of people who understand.

We can’t remove that uncertainty, but we can make sure they face it with a comfortable, welcoming home just steps away from their loved one’s care.

The Pittsburgh Fisher House was never intended to be simply a place to spend the night.

Every aspect of the House is designed with one purpose in mind: providing military and veteran families with a comfortable, welcoming home while they support a loved one receiving medical care.

From private guest suites and inviting common spaces to a well-equipped kitchen and carefully maintained surroundings, the experience reflects a simple philosophy: families facing difficult circumstances deserve an environment that offers comfort, dignity, and peace of mind.

In March, we celebrated the groundbreaking for the Second Pittsburgh Fisher House, marking the beginning of a new chapter in our mission to serve military and veteran families in the Pittsburgh region.

While construction is just getting underway, it’s worth remembering what this expansion represents.

Every guest suite is more than another room. It is another family that can remain close to a loved one receiving medical care. It is another place to rest after a long day at the hospital, another kitchen where meals are shared, and another opportunity to ease the burden during an incredibly difficult time.

When the second Pittsburgh Fisher House opens, our capacity will grow from 10 families to 26 families each night, providing more than 5,800 nights of lodging each year, free of charge.

This remarkable expansion is possible because of the partnership between the Department of Veterans Affairs, Fisher House Foundation, Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House, and the extraordinary generosity of our community.

Thank you for helping us build more than a house. Together, we’re creating more opportunities for military and veteran families to stay together when it matters most.

Who Makes the Pittsburgh Fisher House Possible?

It’s a question we hear often, and the answer is a partnership.

The Department of Veterans Affairs operates the Pittsburgh Fisher House, welcoming military and veteran families while their loved one receives medical care.

The Fisher House Founcation helps fund the construction of Fisher Houses across the country, expanding access for families wherever they are needed.

The Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House is your local nonprofit partner. Through the generosity of individuals, businesses, foundations, and volunteers throughout our region, we provide ongoing support that helps make the House feel like home. From meals and household essentials to family programs and special touches, our community helps care for the families who stay here.

Together, we ensure military and veteran families have a home away from home when they need it most.

For 250 years, generations of Americans have stepped forward to serve our country, accepting sacrifices that extended far beyond those who wore the uniform. Many gave the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation.

As we celebrate our nation’s birthday, we also remember those whose service has preserved the freedoms we enjoy today.

At the Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House, we have the privilege of supporting military and veteran families during some of life’s most difficult moments. When a loved one receives care at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, we help ensure their family has a home away from home, free of charge, so they can remain together when it matters most.
