🩺 A career dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others.​

ATHENA Public Sector finalist Dr. Kim Despres, DHA, RN, is Chief Executive Officer of Circle the City a 501(c)(3) nonprofit providing compassionate medical care to individuals experiencing homelessness across Maricopa County. A registered nurse for more than 40 years, she has led the organization since 2014 through remarkable growth, expanding its medical respite centers, outpatient clinics, street medicine teams, and mobile medical units. Under her leadership, Circle the City launched innovative programs including its first in-house pharmacy, a Memory Clinic, a Substance Use Disorder Program, and the new East Valley Medical Respite Center opening in Mesa in 2026. She holds degrees from the University of Phoenix and Grand Canyon University.​

The Greater Phoenix Chamber, in partnership with CVS Health, proudly hosted Economic Outlook 2027, bringing Valley business leaders together for a closer look at the economic trends shaping the year ahead. 🎉

Keynote speaker Steve Wyett, Chief Investment Strategist at BOK Financial, shared his expert perspective on local, national, and global economic trends, offering valuable insights to help business leaders navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead.

The program also spotlighted Arizona’s healthcare sector and its growing impact on the state’s economy. Dr. Michelle Gourdine, Senior Vice President at CVS Health & Chief Medical Officer at CVS Caremark, and Mark Whalen, Chief Strategy Officer at Banner Health, shared their perspectives on the industry’s economic impact, emerging challenges and opportunities, and what’s next for one of Arizona’s fastest-growing sectors.

🎖️ What happens when a commitment to supporting Veterans becomes a movement that empowers others to do the same? Meet ATHENA Private Sector finalist Kathy Gallowitz, President & CEO of Vanguard Veteran, LLC.

Kathy Gallowitz is a recognized leader in Veteran talent strategy and the founder of the Veteran Champion Movement, which cultivates Civilian Veteran Champions who elevate support for Veterans. Her experience intentionally hiring Veterans in her first business inspired her book, Beyond “Thank You for Your Service,” and shaped her work helping employers turn Veteran hiring into a competitive advantage. Through Women Who Lead, a “cascading mentorship” forum, she develops leaders whose impact multiplies. That civic leadership culminated in Kathy’s 2025 induction into the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame.​
