Phoenix Community Alliance ACTIVATE, ADVOCATE AND BUILD THE PHOENIX WE WANT!

Activating, Advocating, and Building the Phoenix We Want

Phoenix Community Alliance (PCA) is the premier leadership organization working to create a stronger downtown for a better Phoenix. ACTIVATING - PCA convenes and connects leaders, cultivating ideas and innovation to leverage and aggregate resources: human capital, social capital, and financial capital. ADVOCATING - Our Alliance articulates

the vision of Greater Downtown Phoenix by formulating public policy and shaping key messages for the benefit of the city, state, and the entire region. BUILDING - Collectively, PCA members have the knowledge, vision, and strength to develop the built environment — addressing critical urban issues and promoting healthy communities.

Hance Park has always had the potential to be Downtown Phoenix’s crown jewel, and we’re in the middle of making that vision a reality.

From new grand stairway entrances along Central Avenue to 460 new trees, improved pathways, and better shade, the next phase of this $100 million revitalization is about making the park more connected, more accessible, and more welcoming for the 25,000+ residents who now call Downtown home.

The City of Phoenix has committed $3 million through the General Obligation Bond Program, and we’re rallying the community to help us match it. Donors like Arizona Public Service - APS, Fiesta Bowl, Republic Services, and Willmeng Construction, have already stepped up in a big way, and the momentum is building.

Every great city has a great park. This is ours, and it’s ready for its rebirth. 🌿

Thank you to Arizona Horizon on for having Downtown Phoenix Inc.’s President + CEO Devney Majerle and Hance Park Fundraising Committee’s Co-Chair Tim Sprague on the show this week.

Phoenix Community Alliance and EPAM Global brought together some of the Valley's most impactful leaders this week for an evening that was equal parts inspiring and actionable, and a global technology company with more than 50,000 experts across 30 countries made one thing clear: their next chapter in North America starts right here in Greater Downtown Phoenix.

The confirmation came from Dr. Panch, former Director of the United States National Science Foundation and current University Professor of Technology and Innovation at Arizona State University who stood on the stage at the Herberger Theater Center and said what many of us already feel but rarely hear at that level: Phoenix is one of the most uniquely positioned innovation ecosystems on the planet.

From Dr. Panch's global framework to the on-the-ground insights of panelists like PCA Member Paul Rivers, Chief Innovation Officer for Player 15 Group, the evening made one thing clear: the ingredients for something extraordinary are already here, and the world is starting to take notice. 🌆

Thank you for your collaboration on this amazing event, EPAM!

Yesterday, six visionaries took the stage at the Herberger Theater Center, and the stories they collectively shared were nothing short of inspiring.

We are heartbroken to share the passing of Dick Mallery, a true visionary, a founding member of Phoenix Community Alliance, and one of Downtown Phoenix's most devoted champions.

Over a remarkable 58-year career at Snell & Wilmer, Dick didn't just practice law; he helped build a city. He steered Interstate 10 through Downtown Phoenix, brought the Herberger Theater Center to life, and spent his later years advancing the bioscience industry as chairman of the International Genomics Consortium — work that hit close to home after losing his first wife, Francie, to cancer.

As a founding member of PCA, Dick helped lay the groundwork for the organization we are today, and his fingerprints remain on so much of what makes Downtown Phoenix extraordinary.

As former Mayor Paul Johnson said, "I've never met a person who cared more about Phoenix and Downtown than him."

That care was his defining quality. As Matt Feeney of Snell & Wilmer reflected, "Our city and our state are certainly immeasurably better for having him."

His vision, tenacity, and love for this community will continue to inspire the work we do every day. Thank you, Dick.

Downtown Phoenix is rising and on Thursday, May 14, you'll see exactly how. 🏙️

We're bringing the most exciting projects shaping Greater Downtown Phoenix to one stage at the Herberger Theater Center, told directly by the developers, visionaries, and construction companies actually building them.

This isn't your typical panel. We're flipping the script with a rapid-fire showcase — fresh renderings, project timelines, and real answers to your questions, straight from the people doing the work.

And the setting? One you won't forget. In partnership with Herberger Theater Center, we're taking over Center Stage, with attendees seated on the stage itself and the full theater in view. Intimate, immersive, and unlike anything we've done before.

🌟 Today, we celebrated the dedication of Martin L. Schultz Way within the Phoenix Bioscience Core, a fitting tribute to an extraordinary public servant whose vision helped shape our Downtown.

Marty's unwavering leadership touched every corner of our community. From serving as Chief of Staff to three consecutive Phoenix mayors and later as board chair of Phoenix Community Alliance, to championing the long-term investment in biosciences that created the roadmap for PBC, to bringing APS and Pinnacle West to Arizona Center, to his instrumental role in establishing the Human Services Campus (now "Keys to Change"), amongst countless other projects, Marty believed in Phoenix's potential when others couldn't see it.

As Mo Stein shared today: "We wouldn't have the Human Services Campus without Marty." That dedication to serving our most vulnerable neighbors exemplifies the heart behind all his work.

Thank you to Mayor Kate Gallego, Deputy City Manager Frank McCune, Chief of Staff for District 8 Zack Wallace, Executive Director of the Phoenix Bioscience Core Scarlett Spring, HKS Partner Emeritus and Former PCA Board Chair Mo Stein, and the many attendees for honoring Marty's legacy today. Some leaders build buildings. Others build the foundation for an entire community to thrive.

Marty Schultz did both.

Over the past decade, Downtown Phoenix has experienced remarkable growth, and the housing market is no exception.

Today, PCA's Central City Planning & Development Committee (CCPD) convened industry leaders for a thoughtful discussion on how the market has evolved, the progress we’ve made, the challenges that remain, and what lies ahead. The conversation also addressed one of the most frequently asked questions: Why is there limited for-sale product Downtown, and what can be done to address it?

Thank you to our panelists for sharing their expertise and perspectives:

• Matt Seaman — Private Developer · CCPD Co-Chair
• Tim Sprague — Owner/Partner, Habitat Metro, LLC
• Sally Schwenn — Arizona Market President, Gorman & Company
• Brian Cassidy — President, CCBG Architects, Inc. · CCPD Co-Chair
• Mark Stratz (Moderator) — President, Land Advisors Organization · CCPD Vice Chair
