Three new investments. One commitment to South Mountain. 💛

This moment means a little more to us.

Over the past few years, South Mountain W.O.R.K.S. has experienced transition, rebuilding, and a whole lot of growth. Through it all, we stayed committed to one thing: doing prevention the way South Mountain deserves.

That means moving beyond the status quo and building prevention rooted in culture, care, connection, harm reduction, lived experience, young leader voice, and community.

Today, we’re proud to celebrate $350,000 in new first-year investments that allow us to keep building that vision alongside our community.

$75,000 - JustReinvest Grant
Expanding harm reduction, overdose prevention, and connections to resources through Black faith communities.

$75,000 - Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA) Local Drug Crisis Grant
Expanding community-based opioid and methamphetamine prevention, education, outreach, and young leader engagement.

$200,000 - Trauma-Informed Substance Use Primary Prevention (TISUPP) Grant
Supporting our Community Prevention and Resilience Program as we strengthen prevention and resilience across schools, families, and communities throughout South Mountain.

We’re grateful to the funders and partners investing in this work and to TAPAZ for serving as our fiscal sponsor and helping make these opportunities possible.

Most importantly, we’re grateful for the SMWORKS team, coalition members, young leaders, families, schools, partners, and community members who continue building alongside us.

Join South Mountain W.O.R.K.S. and Phillips Memorial C.M.E. Church for "Love in Action: A Faith-Focused Community Harm Reduction Academy."

Learn practical ways to reduce stigma, support people impacted by substance use, strengthen community care, and recognize and respond to an overdose.

South Mountain WORKS Coalition is looking for a part-time Outreach Specialist to join our team and support community-based overdose prevention, harm reduction, outreach, and resource navigation across South Mountain + South Phoenix.

We’re looking for someone who knows how to move in community, build real relationships, meet people where they are, and lead with dignity, respect, and care.

Position Details

✨ Part-Time | 25 hours/week
✨ $30,000 annually
✨ Paid time off + paid holidays
✨ Mileage reimbursement
✨ Anticipated start date: September 1, 2026

Nine young leaders from South Mountain WORKS Coalition just did something powerful. 💪
They participated in SMWORKS Youth Day at the Capitol — a direct civic engagement experience connecting students to Arizona's state legislature. They met with representatives, observed government firsthand, and reflected on what it all means for prevention, advocacy, and community power.
And after just ONE day? 88% said they feel more confident sharing their voice with elected officials. 📊
