Urgent mutual aid request incoming!
Yesterday we learned that Bullet, one of our Tuesday regulars (along with her mama, Daisy), had been attacked by another dog. She had a pretty nasty gash in her neck and a small one above her eye, so we arranged transport to the emergency vet. Long story short, and $2,172.72 later, and Bullet is in surgery now getting her wounds taken care of!
donated $500 from their VEG Cares fund, and we’ve covered the remaining $1,673, but that’s a lot of money for a little org that has none. 😂 Can you help us recover these funds? Everything adds up, so any amount is appreciated!
Companion animals ARE harm reduction. They often provide emotional, social, and very practical benefits to folks on the street. Research has found that pet ownership among unsheltered folks is associated with increased feelings of companionship, safety, purpose, and emotional support. For many people, their companion animal is a non-negotiable priority, and we support that in any possible way that we can. From bringing dog food to distro, to supplying harnesses, leashes, and dog shoes, we let our participants know that we care about their animals just as much as we care about them. 🖤
