Philadelphia Rose Society

Philadelphia Rose Society Welcome to our page! If you grow roses, want to grow roses, or simply enjoy America's favorite flower, this site is for you!

The Philadelphia Rose Society meets monthly (except July & August) at the Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania. In the Chestnut Hill area of Philadelphia, the Arboretum is located on Northwestern Avenue between Germantown & Stenton Avenues. The monthly meetings--free & open to the public--include interesting presentations by a variety of experts in roses, horticulture, and design. In

early June (June 5 in 2016) we hold our Annual Rose Show, a juried exhibition to share our enthusiasm for & knowledge of roses. Again, this event is free & open to all. Often people say they " can smell us before they can see us."

Meet Dr. Suni Bolar, a rose hybridizer known for spray-free, disease-resistant roses.

Dr. Bolar is a seasoned hybridizer whose work stands out for its consistent focus on health, fragrance, and garden performance. Her roses are bred to resist common diseases without chemical spraying, while still offering the form and fragrance gardeners want—a combination that’s rare and hard-won.

By partnering with small, independent hybridizers, we’re able to offer roses you won’t find elsewhere.

New for 2026 from Dr. Suni Bolar: Junie May, Moonlight Glow, and Rosarian Tom Mayhew.

Learn more about Dr. Bolar’s breeding program and explore her new roses on our blog:

These varieties will be available when our 2026 Collection opens January 10.
