Independence Mission Schools IMS provides a transformative Catholic education by developing students intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually.

We offer families of all faiths and income levels the opportunity for their children to learn in a nurturing, loving environment. Independence Mission Schools is a non-profit organization providing a
transformative Catholic education to 4,800 low-income Philadelphia children of all faiths in grades Pre-K through Grade 8. As an independent network of schools, your financial support is vital and helps us show our students that their community, and the world, believes in them and in what they will become.

For Tony, it’s simple: he’s paying the taxes anyway, so why not help IMS students along the way?

Anthony D. Cellucci, CEBS, Managing Partner at The Beacon Group of Companies, supports Independence Mission Schools through Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program. It’s an easy way to help provide need-based scholarships and give more children the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive at an IMS school.

Through tax credit giving, individuals and businesses can redirect Pennsylvania taxes they already owe to help fund scholarships for IMS students.

Want to learn how it works? Visit www.imsphila.org/eitc to explore the program and use our online calculator to see what participation could look like.

Questions? Contact Brett Foley, Director of Tax Credit Giving, at [email protected] or 215-771-7038.

Thank you, Tony, for helping create more opportunities for IMS students!

It’s always rewarding to see philanthropy open doors for the next generation — especially when it helps a young person grow in faith, character, and purpose.

Congratulations to Shane Williams, a freshman at Mercy Career & Technical High School and this year’s recipient of the Larry Perzan Vocational High School Scholarship.

Shane came to Mercy from St. Rose of Lima Philadelphia, a part of Independence Mission Schools, and believes a Mercy education can help prepare him for a successful career – possibly in both Business and the Building Trades programs. Outside the classroom, Shane enjoys flag football and basketball.

Most importantly, he is beginning his Mercy journey in a community that will help him develop not only the skills for a career, but also the faith and values to guide him along the way.

Interested in helping more students like Shane? Gifts to the Larry Perzan Scholarship Fund help provide opportunities for young people to pursue a Mercy education and prepare for their future.

Congratulations, Shane! We’re excited to see where your Mercy journey takes you.

Last week, we welcomed current tax credit participants and guests interested in learning more to our Tax Credit Impact Reception at Union League Liberty Hill.

Guests heard from IMS CEO Gianna D’Angelo, Chief Advancement Officer Erin Wooley, Director of Tax Credit Giving Brett Foley, and Cydney Booker, a 2024 DePaul Catholic graduate and current junior at Little Flower Catholic High School.

Cydney shared how her Catholic school education shaped her journey and continues to influence her goals for the future, offering a firsthand look at what tax credit giving makes possible for IMS students.

Thank you to everyone who currently participates and helps provide need-based scholarships to students across our 13 schools.

Interested in learning more? You can redirect PA tax dollars you already owe toward need-based scholarships and receive a 90% tax credit on your contribution. Visit www.imsphila.org/eitc to learn more and start a conversation.

Meet Letitia Holloway-Owens, proud Mission Champion at St. Martin de Porres Catholic School.

“My participation in the former Sponsor a Student program, now called Mission Champions, is an honor,” Letitia says. “I tell my scholars at St. Martin de Porres, if I can achieve greatness, they can too. Visiting the school and interacting with the students gives me a sense of joy and hope. The students are bright, humorous and inquisitive. A "Part II" of sorts to last month's episode that featured St. Barnabas alumna, Deborah Oduwole, this installment of Strong Minds Loving Hearts features two more Oduwole siblings, Jemima and Solomon.

Just a first grader when her brother, Solomon, was in eighth grade, Jemima is currently in her junior year at Drexel University where she is pre-law and gearing up for the LSATs.

On a similar path and just a few steps ahead, Solomon is currently at Georgetown Law in Washington, D.C. A J.D. candidate, he recently secured a staff position on The Georgetown Law Journal.

For both of these high achievers, the journey started at St. Barnabas. Here, they both developed a passion for civics and built a foundation that has propelled them to incredible heights.

We can't wait to see where their academic and professional careers take them next.
