The 46th Annual Philadelphia Museum of Art Craft Show will take place at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, November 11-13, with a preview event on November 10, 2022.

Elizabeth Holliday's outerwear design starts with a sketch or drape on a dress form. From that, she creates a paper pattern, then cuts that out and sews it in muslin or fabric to see how it fits. That happens many times - adjusting and fitting - and it may take months to finish a design. She will sew the final design in luxury fabrics like cashmere, virgin wool, alpaca, merino, or her new love - Japanese nylon (waterproof). Helping women feel beautiful and confident through their lives is very rewarding for Elizabeth.

John Landis' collector series includes custom, functional furniture created as one-of-a-kind art pieces. By highlighting wood's natural grains, colors, and tones in panels and tabletops, a piece of furniture becomes a canvas. Underlying the visual beauty is solid wood joinery and the highest level of construction. He employs mortise-and-tenon, dovetail, and slip-joint joinery in casework and angled tenons and bridle joints in chairs, often highlighting the joinery as a point of design. His designs center around using proportion, joinery, and designing negative spaces.

Bill Ristine's work applies a design sensibility to the physical language of blacksmithing. Through forged metal, they construct forms that explore balance, structure, and interconnected relationships, where deliberate composition meets the raw forces of heat and pressure. Compositions rely on restrained geometries, including lines, arcs, and intersecting planes arranged to create structural harmony. Individual elements interact through tension and balance, allowing the overall form to resolve into a unified whole.

James Mosier began weaving baskets in 1979. They started weaving using traditional materials, including round reeds, sea grass, and Danish cord. In 1998, they changed direction and started looking for other materials to work with. James settled on weaving aluminum. Now their vessels are created using aluminum that is painted with acrylic paint, cut into thin strips, and hand-woven into vessels and wall sculptures.

Vu Nguyen creates handmade tools for the heart of the home. His knives and utensils are equally in the hands of a home cook as well as a professional chef. Ergonomics and function are paramount but never overshadow the aesthetics. Wood, steel, and brass combine into a warm modern package with refined lines and organic textures.

Pong Gaddi's work brings into play his engineering background in a multi-variable medium like leather to create simple but functional and efficient designs that last a long time. He generally uses natural veg-tanned leathers because these age beautifully as his creations are used.

Melinda Risk's jewelry is narrative sculpture, and she uses several different techniques to tell each story. They include carving, casting, enameling, fabrication, granulation, and painting. Each jewel is a tiny sculpture that can be worn, and recently she has been creating small sculptures that have a removable piece of jewelry that you can wear. This allows her to make more delicate and intricate work that can be shown as art and still be interactive. The challenge for Melinda is to create an archival piece that tells the story of the vision she has in her mind using metal, porcelain, bone wood, and other materials.

Leah Evans's quilted wall hangings consist of layers of the following techniques: appliqué, reverse appliqué, piecing, natural and synthetic dyeing, needle-felting, hand printing, and a variety of embroidery stitches. There is an overall balance between hand and machine work. Tools she often employs include a household-use Kenmore sewing machine, Juki free-motion sewing machine, chalk, needles, rulers, compass, staple gun, and scissors. By incorporating vintage kimonos, upholstery remnants, and many other secondhand materials, the works are in keeping with the quilt tradition of recycling.

Alexandra Geller has been a ceramic artist for over two decades, both teaching in art centers and producing her own original work. She maintains a private studio in Easthampton, Massachusetts. Alexandra draws inspiration from the ceramic vessels of ancient cultures and from her natural surroundings. Simplicity and the use of color inform her work.
