This Saturday! Join us for a Community Census Planning Workshop at 11am at the Kensington Engagement Center!
The U.S. Census aims to count every person living in the United States, and it only happens once every ten years. The count shapes how federal dollars get spent on schools, healthcare, housing, transportation, and food assistance, which makes the Census critical to ensuring that Kensington gets the resources it needs! Each person who is counted brings thousands of dollars of resources to our community, and every person who is missed means less funding for our neighborhood for the next ten years.
Not only that, but the Census also determines how many representatives we get in Congress and how voting districts get drawn. When our community is fully counted, our voices carry more weight in the decisions that affect our schools, our blocks, and our families.
With Kensington having one of the lowest self-response rates in Philadelphia, we want to ensure that our neighbors get counted in the 2030 Census! NKCDC is working with neighbors to come up with a plan that ensures residents in a targeted area (see the map!) are counted, so that we don’t lose out on the resources and representation that we need for the following 10 years.
Food will be provided this Saturday! Plus, you can get entered into a raffle by bringing the answers of 1 other person to the following questions: Do you know what the census is? Would you participate? Why or why not?
