For displaced parties and like-minded loners with no family in town, the cult of turkey and accommodator of dietary needs, hosted Thanksgiving + made t-shirts. A handful of circlers attended, people who were sticking around the block for the holiday, and also wanted to block print a t-shirt. It was a warm, nourishing and productive afternoon.

This circle we focused on the holiday of this month and the like-minded circling initiative it has, which is fabric based creative activity or, put simply, costuming. Starting with a field trip to one of our favorite fabric resources in the city, Jomar Fabrics, Steph Stephanie Marsh and Mr. Belvedere and Scott gathered materials for two costume making sessions at coral street arts house with two other steph/fs among others and Elizabeth, who is tackling an ambitious crazy clown side kick puppet, with our utmost support, of course, and I-95 concurs, as well, inspecting and approving of our materials and choices. And, finally, our wig making initiative has kicked off with this activity, with our learning some of the basics from Penn Center Beauty at City Hall Stop--front laced wigs, adding our own front lace, and eventually starting from scratch.....

This month, leading up to the September circle, members met several times to work on several projects, including "Braille-Embroidered Bracelets" which we'll be sending to our friends in San Diego, California. We also started making circle stamps so we can brand our work with The Sewing Circle of Philadelphia logo.

It was a busy month for the Sewing Circle of Philadelphia. Chris Gage and Michelle Trick pitched some ideas--now they're contributing new therapeutic based programming held throughout the month. We did a breathing workshop, made braille-embroidered bracelets and, next Friday, Chris will be leading a how-to Tarot workshop. Also, on the scene was Emily Adams, taking field trips with Scott Bickmore to the Resource Exchange and Jomar for fabrics for setting up a possible satellite circle in San Diego with Clare Toner. Finally, Coral Street Arts House's Jodie Kelly, musician and music therapist, led a singing bowl workshop where we all got super chillaxed and shared strategies for coping with anxiety.

Continuing to find new forms out of this old piano and incorporating new materials (like black denim), we made a couch, a work bench, and started a chandelier/light box. Jodi learned how to sew and made herself curtains to block out the light blasting from Viking Mill. And, in between upholstering, we managed to fix Rachel's dresser drawer.
