A recent study by Siva Kumar Natarajan, PhD—which was supported by a 2025 AACR-Sontag Foundation Brain Cancer Research Fellowship—identified itaconate, a metabolite more commonly associated with immune responses, as a previously unrecognized driver of ZFTA-RELA+ ependymomas.
