As graduation season comes to a close, we are honored to highlight a truly special graduate and the father who stood beside him every step of the way.
A dedicated educator and single foster parent, welcomed his foster son into his home in June 2022. His foster son, a refugee from Afghanistan, arrived with unique challenges. He is deaf and communicates using Afghan Sign Language, which made it difficult to access services and connect with others in a system that primarily uses American Sign Language.
Despite these barriers, the father embraced the opportunity to provide Ramin with a supportive and nurturing home. Through determination and creativity, he found ways to bridge communication gaps, including using translation technology at home and ensuring his son had interpreter support at school. He has also helped Ramin stay connected with his refugee caseworker and siblings in Afghanistan.
His son, who lost his biological parents, has found permanency with his father, who has committed to being his lifelong support. This year, His son reached a major milestone by graduating from the School for the Deaf.
While the father has already helped his son secure employment, this is only the beginning of his journey. The son is now exploring his next steps after graduation, continuing to navigate immigration processes, and planning for further education.
TPFC celebrates resilience of the graduate and his father’s unwavering commitment. We wish them both continued success in this next chapter.
