Did you know that in the United States, polling places have seen an increase in bomb threats? On Election Day in 2024, several dozen polling places across Georgia, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania received bomb threats. Fortunately, election officials acted swiftly: they helped help people leave the polling site and they provided provisional ballots so people could still vote.

How do we as Quakers mobilize, prepare for, or respond to, problems like bomb threats? What would you do if you heard people couldn't vote because there was a threat of violence?

The guidebook on Election Defense Scenarios suggests that people can volunteer to monitor early voting sites, including drop boxes, by standing nearby. They can organize a Party at the Polls, with games, food trucks, and events, that use "tactical frivolity" to dissuade someone from violence. Research has shown that when third-party observers show up, vigilante violence goes down.
