August is National Minority Donor Awareness Month. This month highlights organ donation and transplantation in communities of color, encourages people to register as donors, and promotes healthy living to help reduce the need for transplants.

- Over half of the people waiting for organ transplants are from communities of color.
- A kidney from a living donor usually lasts about 15 to 20 years, while one from a deceased donor lasts 8 to 12 years. Some last longer, and some may not last as long.

☀️ Kidney Summer Checklist: Know Your Numbers☀️

Knowing your health numbers is a key step in protecting your kidneys. High blood pressure and diabetes are top causes of chronic kidney disease, so regular checkups can help catch problems early.

Recommended medical checklist:
✅ Do you check your blood pressure?
✅ Are you at risk of diabetes?
✅ Have you tested your kidney function?
Taking charge of your health begins with knowing your numbers.

💬 Have you scheduled your yearly primary physical?

For 15 years, the Marion Luckers Kidney Foundation has honored the life of Marion Z. Luckers. She spent five years on dialysis and was not eligible for a kidney transplant at the time. Marion loved painting, teaching ceramics, making flower arrangements, scrapbooking family memories, and creating special cards for loved ones. She was also passionate about education and operated her own in-home daycare, where she nurtured children. To celebrate her commitment to learning, the Marion Luckers Kidney Scholarship was started in 2017. Happy Heavenly Birthday, Marion Z. Luckers. You are loved, missed, and your legacy lives on.
