Meet the Transplant Pregnancy Registry Team!
Carolyn McGrory, MS, BSN, received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing at the University of Pennsylvania, and later a Master’s in Education and Counseling from Wayne State University. She taught Medicine and Surgery in a School of Nursing, followed by 5 years as Director of Professional Education and Patient Services for a 20 county area of Eastern Pennsylvania with the Arthritis Foundation. Carolyn then spent the next phase of her career doing research for the Lupus Foundation and the Lupus Study Center at Thomas Jefferson University. This led to joining the TPRI in its early days as a Research Coordinator. Carolyn, we are grateful for your dedication and expertise to the transplant community! Thank you!

Welcome to another here at the TPRI!

Lung recipients – this one is for you! 🫁

As of the end of December 2024, there were 58 female lung recipients that registered with the TPRI. We know that successful pregnancy after lung transplantation is achievable, however not without risk. Planning the pregnancy is the most modifiable factor for mitigating risk. Our findings show 54% of recipients reported unplanned pregnancies, an area for improvement in counseling patients. TPRI found improved recipient survival in those who planned their pregnancy.

Planning a pregnancy after a transplant is incredibly important. Giving your body time to recover, getting your medications adjusted safely, and working closely with your transplant and OB teams can help create the healthiest possible start for both mom and baby. 💚💙

August is National Multiethnic Donor Awareness Month (NMDAM) – a collaborative effort to save lives and improve the quality of life for diverse communities by fostering a positive culture around organ, eye and tissue donation. Why is NMDAM needed? 60% of patients on the national transplant waiting list are from multicultural communities. The need for donation and transplant is more pronounced in minority communities where disproportionately higher rates of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease contribute to organ failure, especially kidney failure.
