🚴 Volunteers Needed!

The 39th Annual Ben to the Shore Bike Tour is looking for dedicated volunteers to help make this incredible event a success.

Hosted by Families Behind the Badge Children's Foundation, this annual ride brings thousands of cyclists together to support the families of fallen and critically injured first responders. Riders can choose from a 65-mile route from the Ben Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia to Atlantic City, a 30-mile route from Hammonton, or a 10-mile route from Galloway.

This event is about more than just cycling—it's about standing behind those who dedicate their lives to protecting ours. Every dollar raised provides critical financial assistance, mental health resources, and community programs for first responders and their families.

Volunteers are the backbone of this event. Whether you're assisting with registration, supporting riders along the route, helping at rest stops, or working behind the scenes, your time and dedication will have a direct impact on the success of this mission.

If you have a few hours to spare and want to be part of something truly meaningful, please consider volunteering. Together, we can help support the heroes who are always there for us—and the families who stand beside them.

The 39th Annual The Ben to The Shore Bike Tour on Sunday, July 26th, 2026 is a charity bike ride that raises money to provide necessary financial relief for the families of fallen or critically injured first responders and cultivate positive relation...

Philadelphia Heat Health Emergency Declared

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health has declared a Heat Health Emergency due to forecasted dangerous heat index values.

The Heat Health Emergency will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, and is currently scheduled to remain in effect until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026. The declaration may be extended if weather conditions worsen.

During the Heat Health Emergency, the City will activate several emergency response measures, including:

- The Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA) Heatline
- Designated cooling centers throughout the city
- Home visits by special field teams
- Enhanced daytime outreach for individuals experiencing homelessness
- Public reminders encouraging residents to safely check on older adults, family members, friends, neighbors, and others who may be vulnerable to extreme heat.

Please take this extreme heat seriously. Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, wear lightweight clothing, and never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle. If you know someone who may be at risk, take a few moments to check on their well-being while doing so safely.
