At our recent Rotary Club meeting our speaker was our longtime Treasurer and world traveler, Lawrence Heyd! He informed us about all things financial!
How we plan our budget- a finance committee prepares a budget to send to the executive board for approval.
Why did we just purchase a new finance module? To make it easier for our members and treasurer to track, pay, and record membership dues and make donations to the Rotary Foundation!
Why do we have an audit planned? Because we want to be transparent to our members and the community that we are good stewards of the monies entrusted to us!
We even discovered that the fancy pens we give to our guest speakers cost $10 and they are nice!
Thank you Lawrence for your service to our club and community!

Petersburg Breakfast Rotary had a great time volunteering at the Trunk or Treat at the Petersburg Sports Complex! Our past president, Kofi Adih, led our involvement in this event and with the help of other Rotarians, Delegate Kimberly Pope Adams, Kelli Parker, Yulando Wallace, Rick Maddux, Richard Taylor, and RYLA participant, Sincere Adih it was a great success!
They handed out plenty of candy, and you can see from the pictures a lot of fun was had!

Our guest speaker, Meagan Shadbolt, Project Engineer with Gilbane Building Company came to give us details about the city’s new Courthouse and to share her history with the project and what her job entails.
There are aspects of this build that for security reasons can’t be shared but she could tell us about the collaboration with the end user to achieve a finished product all could be proud of and the work that starts a project long before any building starts on the site. Our courthouse should be finished by June of 2028.
We learned that like Rotary, Gilbane values giving back to the community where they work by donating their employees normal work days for service projects!
Thank you Meagan for coming to our club meeting! We enjoyed meeting you and we are excited to watch this site in our downtown!

Our Rotary Club went to see this exhibit and met the artist, Dallas Roquemore, his work will appear here at The Haus Market through the end of October.
It is first and foremost a collection of beautiful artwork- he started drawing as a child turning his obsession with He-Man into something more- as a way to archive his feelings and memories.
While he hasn’t any formal training, he has spent a lifetime of teaching himself through instruction books and practical application.
He specializes in graphite and more recently ball point pen, and he is known for his portraiture work.
This collection plays homage to the Negro Leagues, a place where black excellence was on full display and could be fully recognized!
These heroes brought brilliance to a game that was never built to include them.
As I looked at each picture I thought about the obstacles set in front of these men who played for the sheer love of the game and then to look at their portraits with such detail and knowing the time and talent that went into creating this artwork and I was just grateful to be there taking it all in- well done! I look forward to more of your work!

"The Negro Plays Hero" is a large-format portrait series in graphite and ballpoint pen that interrogates the role of the Black athlete as American hero. Unfolding across three collections, baseball, boxing, and basketball, the work begins with the Negro Leagues, expands into the lineage of Black...

Rick Maddux introduced our guest speakers, Sharon Jadrnak and Ranger Andie from the Petersburg Battlefield Foundation (Pete). Petersburg National Battlefield marks its 100th anniversary this year. Established July 3, 1926, the parks span 2,700 acres across Hopewell, Prince George, Petersburg, and Dinwiddie. It forms one of the nation’s largest civil war battlefield landscape. Currently the battlefields has over $16 million in deferred maintenance projects. Join us in safeguarding the Parks legacy for future generations and for continuing to add to our tourism and education of our visitors.
You may donate by visiting petebattlefields.org and look for DONATE to NPS PETE tab at the top!
Thank you for coming and we all enjoyed the very informative presentation!
