Petersburg Animal Welfare Society - PAWS Petersburg Animal Welfare Society is a 501(c)(3) created to help the Petersburg Animal Shelter. PAWS was founded in 2009 by Carole Matthews.

Our Mission is to help the shelter through education programs, spay/ neuter initiatives, help improving the current shelter and create a volunteer program. Carole envisioned raising funds to build a new shelter for the city of Petersburg, Virginia. The current Board will continue to raise funds to help our local community shelters, educate the public about spay/ neuter programs and feral trap-neuter-release programs as well as help vaccinate and microchip our community animal companions.

Our Story

PAWS was founded in 2009 by Carole Matthews. Carole envisioned raising funds to build a new shelter for the city of Petersburg, Virginia. The current Board will continue to raise funds to help our local community shelters, educate the public about spay/ neuter programs and feral trap-neuter-release programs as well as help vaccinate and microchip our community animal companions. Our long term goal is a low-cost spay and neuter clinic to include affordable medical care to those in need.
