Serendipity German Shepherd Dog Rescue

Serendipity German Shepherd Dog Rescue SGSDR is a 501c3 Nonprofit Animal Rescue specializing in German Shepherd Dog Rescue. Serving St. Louis, MO and surrounding areas.

Serendipity German Shepherd Dogs Rescue (SGSDR) was founded in 2004 with the purpose of rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing German Shepherd dogs within our community and surrounding areas. That purpose lives on today and is embodied by the rescue's leadership team, volunteers, and foster families. We are 100% volunteer-based and 100% donation-fueled. We do not have a facility or shelter--our pr

ogram dogs live with our volunteer foster families until adoption. Dogs are evaluated for the program based upon temperament, approved adopter profiles, and availability of foster homes well-suited for the needs of each individual dog. We are a 501(c)(3) charitable rescue organization, licensed by the Missouri State Department of Agriculture. We consider dogs of all ages, as well as dogs with medical needs, for our rescue program, all dependent upon available resources. Adopters interested in any SGSDR dog are required to complete an online application available on our website at www.serendipitygsd.org. Once received, your application will be processed and you will be contacted by a representative of the rescue to discuss next steps. We are not a first come/first serve rescue, and we do not hold dogs for anyone. We take our commitment to GSDs in need seriously, and work hard to find the right match for our adopters and our dogs in a timely fashion. We often have more than one family interested in the same dog, so there are times when one or more families may be disappointed that they do not get to adopt the dog for whom they initially applied. Because of this, we STRONGLY encourage families to submit an application and get “pre-approved” if they are in the market for a new family member! We get many (way, way, way too many) inquiries on dogs in need every single day. When we know we have a potential perfect fit in a pre-approved family, our opportunity to help both dog and family find their match is greatly expanded. We honor the dedication and contribution of SGSDR's founders, past directors, and past presidents. Without their work, SGSDR would not exist. We dedicate our efforts to ensure the enduring legacy of this rescue so that many, many more German Shepherd Dogs in need will find rescue and loving forever families. If you'd like to be considered as a future adoptive parent of a Serendipity GSD, please apply to adopt today!

🩷 Dog, Cat & Kid-Friendly Jade! 🩷

At just 15 months old, Jade is everything you’d hope for in a young GSD: friendly, smart, and affectionate. She has a happy vibe, a constantly wagging tail, and loves being with her people.

She’s already proving to be a wonderful companion who rides calmly in the car, walks nicely on a leash, knows “sit,” and was completely unbothered by going to her very first vet visit, ever. She’s eager to learn and will do well with continued guidance and positive training.

Jade is a crowd pleaser — friendly with dogs, cats, and kids alike, making her a great candidate for many different homes; one with a secure fenced yard would be ideal for this athletic girl.

More than anything, Jade is looking for a family who wants her with them. A home where she’s part of the daily routine, included in the fun, and loved as a true companion, not left to spend life on the sidelines.

Nova means “a star showing a sudden burst of brightness,” and honestly… that fits her perfectly. 🌟

At just 8 months old, Nova has already been through a big life change after losing her home, but she hasn’t let that dim her spark. Nova is full of personality, energy, and enthusiasm for life. She’s the kind of dog who walks into a room like she’s been waiting all day to meet you — and she may even tell you about it, because this girl definitely has opinions and isn’t afraid to use her voice.

Nova is a large puppy who is sweet, playful, and always ready for her next adventure. She has lived with other dogs and did well with them, and she’s also fine with older kids who can match her goofy energy and size. She already knows a few basic commands, and she’s eager to learn more! This smart girl would thrive with continued training.

If you’re looking for a bright, bold, lovable best friend, Nova is ready to shine.

⭐ 8 months old
⭐ Kennel-trained
⭐ (Almost) house-trained
⭐ Good with dogs, kids

Be sure to fill out an application if Nova sounds like the ball of light you need. We don't think she'll have to wait long for her forever. https://tinyurl.com/Nova-finds-forever

✨ Luna is ready for someone to fall in love with her unique look. At 3-4 years old, this little GSD/husky mix came from a partner shelter with a few of her siblings.

With a little time and confidence, she’s ready to be your #1!

We’re still getting to know Ms. Luna but due to her slight timidness, we think she’d prefer a quieter home with older kids. She does fine with other dogs, but aren’t sure how she feels about cats.

She’s updated on vaccinations and microchipped. She will be spayed before being adopted out.

“Look into my eyes….you know you want to adopt me.” At least that’s what we think Koda’s gaze is demanding.

We think he’s totally irresistible but we know not everyone can handle a strong, confident guy like Koda. At just 4 years old, he’s all heart and love…unless you’re a small animal. Then Koda gets a bit too excited and it’s not a good fit. So it’s safe to safe Koda demands loved but requires boundaries.

He would prefer a life with his person where he can get plenty of exercise, continue his training, and get lots of treats. Koda is fine with bigger dogs, but wouldn’t mind being your one and only.

Happy tails update 💖

Baron (formerly known as Batman) was one of the first adoptions of 2026. Within several months of finding his forever home, Baron has come out of his shell. He was reserved at first but has finally started playing with his owner’s son’s dog and becoming more interested in everything. Baron’s owner’s report that he’s stingy with his kisses, but when you get one, you really know he meant it.

This is why we strongly believe in the 3-3-3 rule when adopting a pet:

⭐️ 3 days to decompress
⭐️ 3 weeks to learn new routines
⭐️ 3 months to feel fully at home

Some dogs take less time and some take more, especially with as sensitive as German Shepherds can be. Spending time in a shelter or coming from a traumatic past can absolutely amplify the timeline.

We are so thankful Baron’s new family has given him the time and resources he needs to grow into a playful, confident young dog! 🙏

Thinking about adopting a GSD through Serendipity?
Get pre-approved! ✅

Adoption applications for specific dogs are reviewed as they’re received, and the homes we feel are the best match for that dog are processed in that same order. Submitting your application early helps us review your information sooner and schedule a required home visit to complete the approval process.

Not applying for a specific dog yet? That's fine! Once approved, our team will work with you to recommend a dog in our program that best fits your lifestyle and home.

Prefer to wait for your ideal one to come along? Getting pre-approved lets you do exactly that. 💚

Get to know Princess Belly Rubs, aka Justice! 💕

This 2–3 year old GSD/Husky mix recently joined us from a shelter partner in Illinois after she and several other dogs were living together in a home where their owner could no longer care for them.

Justice is a friendly girl who’s still adjusting to all the recent changes in her life and can be a bit unsure at times. She’s still learning the ropes — especially when it comes to leash walking — and would thrive with a patient adopter who can help her build confidence. As you can see, this belly rub enthusiast was far more interested in affection than posing for photos. 😆

We expect this pretty girl will do well with other dogs, but she has not been cat tested yet. Because she can be a little unsure of new people, a home with older, dog-savvy children may be the best fit, as a busy toddler environment could feel overwhelming for her right now.

🟣 Up to date on vaccines
🟣 Heartworm negative
🟣 On prevention
🟣 Microchipped
🟣 Will be spayed prior to adoption
🟣 Approx. 95 pounds

Keep checking Justice’s profile for updates! 👉 https://tinyurl.com/sgsdr-justice

Harah’s day out and photo shoot! 📸☀️

A walk in the sunshine is Harah’s idea of a perfect day out, and she made the most of it recently on a late spring stroll with an SGSDR volunteer — posing for these new pictures along the way.

At 8 years old, this senior GSD has a quiet and dignified presence, mixed with a friendly, affectionate couch potato personality, and is more than ready to trade in her former neighborhood patrol days for a couch of her own.

Harah has done well meeting calm, respectful dogs and could potentially live with a mellow buddy given a slow introduction. After raising several litters of puppies, though, she’s ready for the quieter side of life and would prefer to skip the energy that comes with puppies and younger dogs.

Harah qualifies for our Seniors FUREVER program, with two adoption options:
🐾 Adopt for $400, and any future SGSDR senior adoption is free
🐾 Or adopt for a reduced senior adoption fee of $250

Imagine walking through the door and being greeted by this lovely gal every day! 🥰
