What an evening this was spreading the word about ovarian cancer awareness with George Thorogood & The Destroyers fans & staff!

At the table: The Krewe of Vixens. ☠️
Their motto is "Kiss Ovarian Cancer Goodbye" — and when this crew set up in our lobby, fans showed up big. In their words: "The amount of George’s followers that we were able to meet & mingle with was amazing! The personal stories, numbers exchanged, literature given out, donations received and all was above our expectations."

The importance of your family history and risk factors matter

During Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, we remember Gilda Radner — and a story that helped change the conversation about ovarian cancer.

Beloved as one of the original cast members of Saturday Night Live, Gilda was only 40 when she was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer in 1986, after months of symptoms and unsuccessful attempts to find an explanation. She died less than three years later, at 42.

Gilda was Jewish, and her story would eventually become closely connected with the emerging understanding of hereditary ovarian cancer. But there is something important to remember about the year she was diagnosed:

There was no BRCA genetic test to offer her.

The BRCA genes had not yet been identified. Today, ovarian cancer itself is an indication for germline genetic evaluation, and Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry is an additional factor associated with an increased likelihood of certain BRCA1 and BRCA2 founder variants.

We do not know whether Gilda carried a hereditary cancer mutation. But after her death, her husband, Gene Wilder, worked to make sure that what happened to Gilda would help other families. The Gilda Radner Hereditary Cancer Program was established at Cedars-Sinai, with attention to women at increased hereditary risk.

Her story is a reminder of just how much has changed — and why knowing your family history, recognizing persistent symptoms, and understanding hereditary cancer risk still matter.

THIS SATURDAY COME JOIN THE KREWE OF VIXENS FOR THEIR ANNUAL CO****LE TOURNAMENT AT BAMBOO WI***ES ON BEAUTIFUL PENSACOLA BEACH. This charity tournament is part of the Gulf Coast Co****le series. Come throw some bags and help us KISS OVARIAN CANCER GOODBYE! Singles, Doubles, professional and just for fun categories. There will be plenty of raffles, silent auctions, FUN and shenanigans. Come enjoy a shrimp boil and a cold drink too! Singles registration is 8-10. Doubles registration is 10-12.

There are over 30 types of ovarian cancers, each starting from different cell types within the o***y. Epithelial ovarian cancers are the most common types originating from surface cells of the o***y, fallopian tube and peritoneum. They all have the same common symptoms to include bloating, pelvic pain, feeling full quickly and urinary symptoms. If the symptoms are new to you and persist for 2 weeks or more talk to your doctor. You are your best advocate!
