The many faces of Tiny Ernest...

We had a rough week last week. Someone actually said we had "murdered" a kitten. Another said we didn't try hard enough....

We had a rough week last week. Someone actually said we had "murdered" a kitten. Another said we didn't try hard enough.
It is tough to make yourself want to keep getting up each morning to even try.
And yet?
Here we are giving up our only half day off to sit at the vet for Tucker. Tucker is over 15 and is a rescue being performed by board member, Charity Anne. We met Charity at the vet and we sat and hoped.
Unfortunately? After hundreds of dollars of testing? He cannot be saved. Anemic to the point of needing a transfusion. Kidney disease. Infection pouring from his mouth and FIV that makes all of this hard to heal from. The death knell? His age. He is 15 plus years and frail body condition combined with all of these other things, makes it impossible to come back from.
Add to all of this...fleas, mange, ear mites so chronic his ears look like a Scottish fold.
We tried.

When Heat Mizer arrived, the finders had placed him in a plastic tote, lid on and only one tiny breathing hole. It was over 100 degrees that day and she was lateral and gasping for air. We immediately placed her in oxygen and she remained there for several days, just trying to get her regulated and to survive. Here we are so many weeks later and she is thriving! She would end up losing an eye to her upper respiratory infection but she is none the wiser! She still romps, plays and behaves like a normal kitten would. Check out the light tabby stripes that show through her otherwise black coat! She is super fancy!

Sammie is still AVAILABLE! When she came in from another rescue, we were all SURE she would lose both eyes. Amanda has worked tirelessly to ensure that she hasn't. She does have a film over both which makes her visually impaired but...shhhh...SHE KNOWS NO DIFFERENCE! She is a normal, sweet and playful kitten! This scruffy fella wants to remind you that we have Market today in just THIRTY MINUTES!!! He is a bit self focused because he knows our Markets STILL raise over a third of the funding for the entire rescue...or rather? Guys like him who have been taken from the streets and will never be adopted out. He doesn't particulalry like most of what we will have for sale or he probably wouldn't even tell you about it. I mean we have:
Fresh baked peanut butter and jelly cookies
Fresh baked sourdough bread
Local produce, fruits and veg (blech! Who eats that?)
Farm fresh duck and chicken eggs (he would eat these in a pinch.
Handcrafted, small batch jams and jellies (he is impressed that there are over 30 flavors but equally dismayed that not a one is seafood nor meat based)
He also recognizes that while he may live his life out at the Sanctuary and not really want you talking to him, looking at him or petting him? There are twenty weird little kittens available who like all that crap and honestly? If you guys would come get them all? He wouldn't have to share his Churus with them anymore and that seems like a win-win for him! Also, there are like five dogs here that simply don't belong here. It is bad enough that 8 dogs live here permanently but these 5 extras? He would really like to see them go away...
So come on out between 11 and 3 today and visit the Farm! Check out all the animals and do some shopping that helps local farmers, bakers and your local community animal rescuers.

Where are our small dog people? Meet Hamper! She is a 3 year old chihuahua mix who is full of charm and personality. She is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and so much fun. This is the ride along dog you need. She hops right in the car, hops right in your arms, and hops right in the laundry hamper…which she has claimed as her house! Come meet Hamper today at market 11 am to 3 pm.

Folks! We are OVER CAPACITY in every single space on the Farm! Here are 20 kittens who are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and FeLV/FIV tested! Every adoption comes with 30 Days Trupanion Pet Insurance, Kitten Kit, food and coupons for local goodies! Saturday ONLY we drop our adoption fees to $100 per kitten!!! Don't forget about everyone's favorite stumpy fella, Barnaby! Barnaby has had it rough. He did NOT thrive in the shelter environment and we struggled when he first arrived. However, he was brought to us directly from our friend, trainer and behavioralist, Andria. Andria had fostered him in her home for a week and he did great with she and her husband. She has an "only dog" dog and Barnaby is an "only dog" kind of guy, too or ahe would keep him in a heartbeat. Instead? She is offering her services for as many training sessions as you need to integrate him in his new household. Barnaby was afraid and standoffish when we got him and he is scared of new people but he has really found his comfort with us and feels confident now. He will need your patience to get there in your home. He is afraid you are going to stel his food and his things. He is afraid he has no security. We can help with all of that. He just needs a patient, understanding home to give him a chance.
Barnaby is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Come meet him by private appt.

And then there was ONE!!! Polar Bear is the LAST of Fly's Sled Pups! Born here at the farm, I cannot believe she has not been adopted! In fact? She WAS adopted. She was the FIRST to be adopted before she was old enough to go home. The woman paid the fee and for four weeks we told others who wanted her that she was not available. When it came time for her to go home? The woman said she didn't want her and challenged her deposit on her card.
Lesson learned! We will never preadopt! It isn't the money lost. It is the opportunity lost. We turned away SO many people who wanted her based on that commitment and Polar Bear has now spent her puppyhood in the kennels. She is soooo smart, knows many cues and commands, walks beautifully on lead and is overall a magnificent white Husky, Shepherd and Komondor dog. We did the DNA on both her mother and grandmother.
I hope someone super special is coming to meet her today. She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and sooo ready for you! She LOVES water and running and love!
