Why adopt from the Kennel Club at First Ladies? Well, for one? We have the most devoted, hardworking team lead by Wendy! When Wendy sees a behavior or struggle, she immediately contacts Andria who is a trainer and behavioralist. Sometimes it is a quick correction she can give over the phone and others we pay her to come out for a full training session.
Our team doesn't just clean the kennels, feed, water and move on. Walking and playing with them is great but there is so much more to our program.
Our team works with these dogs and puppies to correct the behaviors that make folks worry aboit adoption.
Take Fly's pups? They are ALL walking on leads, holding their big potties the best they can or only using a designated space in their kennel when they can't. They all know "Off!" to discourage jumping and down to either lay or sit and wait. They know "COME!" and do at the mere shake of a treat can.
They are ONLY 12 weeks old and better trained and behaved than many 1-2 year old large breed dogs because it's hard and takes repetition and consistency and MOST dog owners don't have 2-3 hours a day, 6 days a week to invest in training.
These five pups have had exposure to so many different doga, cats and animals. They have been around humans of all genders and ages. They have walked through crowds and around equipment.
I had a woman turn up her nose and say "Oh I know too much about huskies to want that breed..." She was kind of sh*tty and know it all about it.
True enough, some breeds are tougher than others to train and that is why the work WE have done since the day they were born is so important. Because Huskies are BRILLIANT and exceedingly well behaved when properly trained.
These are WONDERFUL dogs and they are mixed with German Shepherd, Komondor and Great Pyrenees. They will be big dogs but also? If you have ever owned an LGD or working breed? You know they will also be AMAZING.
Let us know if you would like a private adoption appt to meet the pups, Finn or Phalen, who are their biological "Uncles!" Finn and Phalen do not have the Husky DNA but also we got them at nearly 5 mos old and so we got a little later start with them and had more "bad" behaviors to correct. We believe these dogs lived wild all of their lives with mom, Molly who just got her forever home last week. They had no manners, barrel rolled on a leash, pottied everywhere and loved to put their mouths all over you for fun! No biting...
Our team has worked EXCEPTIONALLY hard with these two wonderful, scruffy boys! They love their walks on leads now and are great at it with no fear, pulling or issues. They do NOT like to potty in their kennels...at all! They OCCASIONALLY have an accident over night but you will be taking them out at bedtime and in the morning which is a shorter span of time than they see now. They are still working on "off" because they are REALLY excited to meet ANYONE but they're getting there. These two would be AMAZING companions for a family with kids but equally so for someone who wants a ride or die, take everywhere canine companion.
So shoot us a message to meet any of these great dogs!

Who remembers that rainy night on March 24th when I retrieved a little dog with HUGE ears from a Walmart parking lot where he'd been tied to a post and left.
Well, that little dog I dubbed "Rabbit" is so happy and loved. His owner tested him for once our guess was correct. He is a malinois! He is still fun, gangly and LOVES his mama and sibling!
His name is Mocha now.
Happy update to send you into the weekend!

Ack!!! Can we have Forgetful Friday today since Wishlist Wednesday blew right past us? We desperately need a stock up on cat litter! Any paper pellet litter, non clumping and NO PINE (we are allergic), will work. Also, don’t forget our special needs catio cats! They are on a special digestion diet. It’s a little pricey but the results have been remarkable. Ask any volunteer who cleans that area and they are much happier with their new diet! ❤️💩❤️ On the dog side, the big pups have a request for Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach! Thanks so much! We appreciate every donation!

HUGE shout out to our team this week. Just as extreme cold offers issues, extreme heat brings it's own problems. Big shout out to the ladies working extra hard at keeping everyone cool! I believe we bought this swamp cooler at a garage sale years ago when Greg and Sarah found it.

Well, now we’ve done it and she’s threatening to quit! Chelsea, our fearless leader’s birthday was yesterday and WE MISSED IT! Actually, we didn’t and she’s not quitting but we were so busy it was too late to make a proper post celebrating her. So…HAPPY BIRTHDAY WEEK to our Chelsea! You all know that she founded First Ladies after many years of quietly rescuing on her own. Now she has built that into cats, “not a dog” rescue that is well on the way to saving 100 dogs this year, and the only small farm animal sanctuary in central Florida.

What you probably don’t know is that since she has brought on a small team to help with day to day tasks as well as built the best crew of volunteers on the planet, her job now is mostly raising money to make all of this work. Without her tireless, and by that I mean DAILY efforts to fundraise, we could not do any of this. All the special needs bottle babies, all those gnarly eyes that need surgery, so many little broken leg babies, the dogs displaced or abandoned, just basic food, litter, and so much dewormer! That is a full time job to make happen. It’s a thankless job and one that she often says she is too midwestern in mindset to do.

Asking for money is hard. Giving money in celebration of a job REALLY well done is a great way to celebrate all she does to keep First Ladies not just going but growing and thriving! So let’s see if we can bring home a birthday fundraiser this week that will give her a few needed days of relaxation from this very stressful part of her job.

Happy birthday, Chelsea! You are strong, smart, kind, creative, and the hardest worker we know. Thank you for all you do for the two and the four leggeds in your life! ❤️🐈🐶🦆🐐🪿🐓🦚🐾❤️ We love you!
