The Greater Pensacola Figure Skating Club (GPFSC) is a local volunteer run 501(C)3 non-profit organization dedicated to promoting physical activity and improving ice sports accessibility in the Gulf Coast. Figure Skating, USA Hockey, US Speedskating, Special Olympics and Move United. GPFSC currently contracts ice from the Pensacola Bay Center to run their program. As the only sheet of public ice i

n Northwest Florida, skaters travel from as far as Mobile and Tallahassee. The organization has been in existence since 1996 and is over 250 members strong! This standardized progressive curriculum is designed to help skaters of all ages and abilities master the fundamentals of ice skating, while having fun in a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment that values hard work and dedication. GPFSC’s program ensures that EVERYONE from preschoolers to adults, beginners to competitors, and skaters with disabilities can learn how to skate. Whether skaters want to achieve Olympic fame or simply enjoy the recreational benefits of skating, THIS IS THE PLACE WHERE IS ALL BEGINS! GPFSC offers group classes and private coaching for both figure and hockey skaters as well as practice ice for their members. Each session generally runs 6-8 weeks. All coaches are LTSUSA certified instructors who have successfully completed background checks and National SafeSport certification. The Club’s endorsement by USA Hockey paved the way for their partnership with the Pensacola Junior Ice Flyers (PJIF). GPFSC runs LTSUSA programming for aspiring hockey skaters looking to learn the fundamentals of skating first to then move into the Pensacola Junior Ice Flyers, Learn to Play program! Many skaters who are already in PJIF’s Learn to Play program take full advantage of our ice time and sign up for Power Skating Skills class to get an extra edge up on other players! Year-round ice access coming to Mobile per Andy Kaufmann of Zawyer Sports! This rink will be a separate facility from the seasonal ice sheet located in Regions Arena.

In addition to serving as a practice rink for the new Mobile professional hockey team, the facility will be available to the community and will include something for all abilities including adaptive programming. Exciting news for this area! Check out the interview below for more details.

There are only 16 months until puck drop in the Port City, so we did an exclusive interview with the team's owner to find out all the details. https://www.wkrg.com/mobile-county/mobile-hockey-teams-owner-shares-timeline-leading-to-puck-drop-news-5-exclusive/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook_WKRG

🎓Senior Spotlight | Coach Leisy ✨

Leisy’s skating career began at age five, taking her to rinks across the globe as part of a military family. GPFSC was honored to welcome her back this season as both a competitive skater and a coach. Graduating from Biloxi High School, Leisy will attend Adrian College in Michigan on a full-tuition scholarship. She will major in Biology with the goal of attending Veterinary school. Leisy is set to take her passion to the next level as she was recently selected to be a member of Adrian College’s varsity synchronized skating and figure skating teams.

🎓Senior Spotlight | Maddie ✨

Maddie began her love for skating when she first
graced our ice seven seasons ago. Currently a student at Pensacola Catholic High, she will be moving to Tampa this fall to attend USF. Maddie is a recipient of the USF Directors Scholarship and a full-tuition Florida Bright Futures Academic Scholarship. She plans to major in Cell & Molecular Biology in preparation for medical school. With an abundance of rinks in the Tampa area, we are thrilled Maddie will have multiple locations to enjoy the ice when she needs a break from studying!
