Thank you to everyone who joined us for March First Friday today!

We were delighted to welcome Kirk Williamson, a proud Leadership Tri-Cities Class I member, who shared a fascinating presentation about four influential female pioneers of the Pacific Northwest.

Kirk describes himself as a “recovering broadcaster who has flunked retirement…twice.” Since arriving in the Tri-Cities in 1975, he has played a role in numerous community events and projects and was honored as Kennewick Man of the Year in 2000. He also served two terms on the Leadership Tri-Cities Board and is a founding member of the Columbia Basin Badger Club, recently completing his second six-year term as president.

In addition to his many community roles, Kirk now works as a local guide for passengers on the cruise boats that visit the region from April through November, sharing the stories and history that make the Columbia Basin so special.

We appreciate Kirk for bringing these remarkable stories to life and everyone who joined us for another great First Friday conversation!

Class XXIX rolled up their sleeves and dug deep into one of the most vital industries in our region, agriculture. From hearing directly from industry experts to touring local farms and wineries, the day offered a firsthand look at the innovation, resilience, and stewardship that powers the Tri-Cities.

Participants explored the complex history of water rights, the science behind soil development, and the interconnected story of our local ecology, gaining a deeper understanding of how agriculture shapes our economy, environment, and community.

A huge thank you to AgWest Farm Credit for sponsoring this impactful day and investing in the education of our region’s leaders. We are also grateful to Kiona Vineyards & Winery for hosting and to Pacific Pasta & Grill for providing a delicious meal that kept our class fueled and ready to learn.

Leadership Tri-Cities Class XXIX | State & Local Government Day 🏛️

This past week, Class XXIX spent an engaging and informative two days focused on State & Local Government, gaining firsthand insight into how decisions are made and services are delivered at every level.

The first day began at Pasco City Hall & Police Station, where the class heard from panels featuring City Managers, Public Facilities District leaders, experts in city budgeting, and local fire department leadership who each offered a behind-the-scenes look at the complexity and collaboration required to serve our communities effectively.

The learning continued in Olympia, where the class met with the Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, and the Tri-Cities Legislative Council, connecting local priorities to statewide policy and leadership.

Thank you to our generous session sponsors, Benton PUD and Franklin PUD, and to Growing Forward Services for sponsoring lunch and supporting a day of meaningful dialogue and learning.

A special thank-you to Richa Sigdel and Chris Mortenson for their thoughtful planning and leadership in creating such a well-rounded and impactful session day.

State & Local Government Day highlighted the dedication of public servants who work every day to strengthen our communities and shape the future of the Tri-Cities and Washington State.

Leadership Tri-Cities Class XXIX | Education Day 📚

Class XXIX spent an inspiring and insightful day in December focused on Education, gaining a deeper understanding of the systems, people, and passion behind educating the youth of the Tri-Cities.

A heartfelt thank-you to Columbia Basin College for serving as our lunch sponsor and gracious host for the start and end of the day. Lunch was provided by Chapala Express, a wonderful reminder of the full-circle impact of education, as the restaurant is owned and operated by a Pasco High School graduate.

Throughout the day, the class heard from panels of dedicated teachers and administrators, toured an elementary school, a middle school, and the new Orion High School—a specialty high school designed to meet students where they are and provide innovative, personalized pathways to graduation and future success. Participants even rode a school bus, adding an authentic, hands-on perspective to the experience.

The class learned more about local private schools and engaged in meaningful pre-learnings of local school board meetings.

Education Day highlighted just how hard educators, administrators, and community partners are working every day to support, guide, and uplift the young people of the Tri-Cities. The commitment, creativity, and care shown across all levels of education left the class encouraged and hopeful.

Special thanks to Alice Amaya (Class XXVII) for serving as the Education Session Director and for thoughtfully hosting such an impactful and well-rounded day.

We are grateful to all who invest their time, talent, and heart into educating the next generation.

Leadership Tri-Cities Class XXIX | Law & Justice Day ⚖️

This past November, Class XXIX participated in a powerful and meaningful Law & Justice Day—one that was emotional, eye-opening, and ultimately rooted in hope for our community.

We extend our sincere thanks to Johnson & Johnson Law Firm, our session sponsor, and Pye-Barker Fire & Safety, our lunch sponsor, for their generous support in making this impactful day possible.

The class had the opportunity to tour the Juvenile Justice Center and the Benton County Jail, gaining a deeper understanding of the systems that serve and protect our region. Participants also heard from an incredible lineup of panelists, including all five local police chiefs, area sheriffs, SWAT teams, the METRO Drug Task Force, and other specialized law enforcement departments that each offered insight into the complex and nuanced realities of public safety in the Tri-Cities.

While the day included hard and heavy conversations, it was also filled with hope. The dedication, empathy, and genuine care shown by our local leaders reinforced a shared commitment to the safety and well-being of this community we call home.

A heartfelt thank-you to Session Director JoDee Garretson of SARC for thoughtfully curating such an impactful experience, and special thanks to Judge Dave Petersen for hosting and supporting this important session.

We are grateful for the leaders who serve, protect, and advocate for our community every day. 💙
