The Kennewick Fire Department was proud to celebrate National Donut Day on Friday, June 5, in partnership with The Salvation Army TriCities Corps —a tradition rooted in service, compassion, and community connection.

To mark the occasion, Fire Chief Michael Heffner joined The Salvation Army in handing out donuts to community members shopping at Fred Meyer (2811 W. 10th Avenue), sharing a simple treat and meaningful moments of connection with our residents.

We’re grateful for partnerships like this that help us engage with the community, build relationships, and continue serving Kennewick in meaningful ways.

Last Friday, June 5, The Salvation Army Tri-Cities joined communities across the nation in celebrating National Donut Day in partnership with Fred Meyer locations in Richland and Kennewick.
Throughout the day, Advisory Board members, volunteers, and retired officers distributed complimentary donut holes to customers as a simple act of kindness and appreciation. We were especially grateful for the support of volunteers from the LDS Church, Kennewick Fire Department, and members of our community who helped make this event possible, as well as Franz Family Bakery for their support and for providing the donuts.

National Donut Day is more than just a celebration of a favorite treat. It honors a remarkable chapter in Salvation Army history. In 1917, The Salvation Army sent volunteers to support U.S. soldiers serving in France during World War I. Among them were women who became known as the "Donut Lassies." Working under challenging conditions near the front lines, they provided soldiers with supplies, encouragement, and freshly made donuts that became a symbol of comfort, hope, and care far from home.

To honor their service and to support those struggling during the Great Depression, The Salvation Army established the first National Donut Day in Chicago in 1938. Since then, the tradition has continued each year on the first Friday of June.

Thank you to Fred Meyer, our dedicated volunteers, Advisory Board members, and staff who helped share smiles and celebrate this meaningful tradition with our community.

Last Sunday, we had the privilege of welcoming Lt. Colonel Cindy Foley, Divisional Commander of The Salvation Army Northwest Division. Together with her husband, Lt. Colonel Tim Foley, Divisional Leader for Officer Development, Divisional Youth Secretary, they have dedicated more than 44 years to serving God and communities across various territories and ministries.

It was also an honor to receive them during one of their final ministry visits before entering retirement, marking the conclusion of a long and faithful journey of service to the Lord through The Salvation Army.

During her visit to The Salvation Army Tri-Cities, Lt. Colonel Foley shared a brief but inspiring message focused on the importance of telling the story of God's love, sharing the story of our Salvation Army in Tri-Cities, which has faithfully served our community for more than 83 years, and testifying to what God is still doing in our lives today.

Her Scripture emphasis for this year has been
"1 Peter 3:15 NLV Your heart should be holy and set apart for the Lord God. Always be ready to tell everyone who asks you why you believe as you do. Be gentle as you speak and show respect".

We are grateful to Lt. Colonels Cindy and Tim Foley for their visit, their leadership, their example of faithfulness, and the words of encouragement and spiritual challenge they shared with our congregation. We pray that God will continue to bless them in this new season of life and ministry.

The Salvation Army Tri-Cities Corps is excited to support and send Nathan as he serves this summer with the Salvation Army Service Corps through the Golden State Division.

Service Corps is a young-adult missions program that partners with local communities, supports youth and outreach ministries, and shares God's love through hands-on service. We are proud of Nathan's willingness to answer God's call and dedicate his summer to serving others.

Nathan has been working to raise $1,500 to cover travel, training, and ministry expenses. Thanks to the generosity of many supporters, he is almost fully funded, with only $400 remaining to reach his goal.

We invite you to join us in praying for Nathan as he prepares for this exciting opportunity. If you feel led to help, any contribution—large or small—or simply sharing this post can help make this mission possible.

Thank you for partnering with us as we encourage and send the next generation of Christian leaders and servants.

Join us this and every Sunday at 11:00 a.m. as we continue our series: “Overcomer.”
As we climb the mountains of life, fear may scream from the abyss…. but faith calls us from the summit.
And it’s in the middle of that climb where we discover where our confidence truly rests.

To climb great mountains, you need the right tools.

Many times we think we are victorious because we were able to overcome trials, obstacles, and battles. But the truth is this:
Jesus did not make you a conqueror because you were able to win, but because He loved you before you were even born.

The victory He gives you does not depend on your strength, your achievements, or what the world says about you. It depends on His love, His grace.

As His Word says in Gospel of John 14:27 (New Living Translation) I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid."

The world cannot give you something it does not have.
But Jesus can give you that true peace.
He invites you to put on the right footwear to climb those obstacles you never thought you could overcome:
the peace that only comes from knowing the Good News Jesus wants to give you.

Join us this and every Sunday as we study together:
“How to Think Like a Warrior While Living as Conquerors.”

Come and discover that in Christ, victory is not achieved…
it is received.
