CANACINTRA Colima, la Fuerza de la Industria, en Colima y en todo México, celebró un desayuno el sábado 7 de marzo con motivo del Día Internacional de la Mujer.

CANACINTRA invitó amablemente a la presidenta de COPA, Sylvia McFadden. El evento estuvo dirigido a mujeres emprendedoras, líderes electas y ejecutivas, y profesionales del sector empresarial.

El evento contó con la presencia de Gloria Figueroa, presidenta de la Comisión de Mujeres en la Industria.

Sylvia recibió una cálida bienvenida de los asistentes y tuvo la oportunidad de reunirse con Gloria Figueroa, la alcaldesa de Manzanillo, Rosi Bayardo, y la alcaldesa de Villa de Álvarez, Esther "Tey" Gutiérrez Andrade.

Estas destacadas líderes expresaron su interés en fortalecer la amistad y la colaboración entre Pasco y Colima.

CANACINTRA Colima, the Strength of Industry, in Colima and all across Mexico, held a breakfast meeting on Saturday, March 7, in celebration of International Women's Day.

CANACINTRA graciously invited COPA President Sylvia McFadden to attend. The event was designed for women entrepreneurs, elected leaders and executives, and business professionals.

The event featured Gloria Figueroa, head of the Women in Industry Commission.

Sylvia was warmly welcomed by attendees and had a chance to meet with Gloria Figueroa and Manzanillo Mayor Rosi Bayardo and Villa de Alvarez Mayor Esther "Tey" Gutierrez Andrade.

These amazing leaders all expressed interest in growing the friendship and partnership between Pasco & Colima.

México, como socio comercial global, depende en gran medida del Estado de Colima. El Puerto de Manzanillo es el puerto de transporte marítimo de aguas profundas más grande de todo el país y sigue creciendo. La presidenta de COPA, Sylvia McFadden, el tesorero Carl Holder, el presidente de Artes y Cultura, Justin Raffa, y el presidente de Encanto Arts, José Íñiguez, realizaron un recorrido por el puerto desde el nivel del agua.

El Estado de Colima es uno de los estados más pequeños de México. El Puerto de Manzanillo es una de las vías para que Colima se convierta en uno de los estados más importantes para la economía nacional.

El Puerto de Manzanillo mueve anualmente cerca de 4 millones de contenedores de 20 pies alrededor del mundo, con énfasis en Asia y la Cuenca del Pacífico.

El Puerto está en vías de duplicar esa capacidad de transporte marítimo a medida que expande sus operaciones. Para 2030, la capacidad del puerto podría alcanzar los 10 millones de contenedores.

Mexico, as a global trade partner, relies heavily on the State of Colima. The Port of Manzanillo is the largest deep water shipping port in the entire country - and growing. COPA President Sylvia McFadden, Treasurer Carl Holder, Arts & Culture Chairman Justin Raffa, and Encanto Arts President Jose Iniguez were given a tour of the port from the water level view.

The State of Colima is one of the smallest states in Mexico. Port of Manzanillo is one way Colima becomes one of the most important states in terms of the national economy.

Port of Manzanillo moves nearly 4 million 20-foot containers annually around the globe with an emphasis in Asia and the Pacific Rim.

The Port is on a fast track to more than double that shipping capacity as it expands operations. By 2030, the Port's container capacity could reach 10 million.

COPA se centra en cuatro áreas. Una de ellas es Desarrollo Económico y Comercio. El objetivo ha sido establecer una conexión de importación y exportación entre Pasco y Colima para el transporte de productos especializados. COPA recibirá a líderes empresariales de Colima en el verano de 2026. Se están planificando reuniones con funcionarios del estado de Washington, especialistas en importación y exportación y empresarios de Pasco.

En el estado de Colima, la sal es un ejemplo destacado de los principales productos básicos de Colima. La delegación de COPA tuvo la oportunidad de conocer de primera mano el proceso de elaboración de la sal cuando Sal Real de Colima realizó una visita a sus instalaciones en Manzanillo, organizada por José Delgado.

La visita fue organizada por Juan José Meza Núñez, presidente de CANACINTRA Colima. Juan José se especializa en fomentar la colaboración entre la industria, el gobierno y la academia.

La presidenta de COPA, Sylvia McFadden, el tesorero Carl Holder, el presidente del Comité de Arte y Cultura, Justin Raffa, y el presidente de Encanto Arts, José Íñiguez, conocieron de primera mano cómo Sal Real de Colima prepara su preciada sal para su distribución internacional.

COPA has 4 areas of focus. Economic Development & Trade is one. The goal has been to establish an import/export connection between Pasco and Colima for the movement of specialty products. COPA will host Colima business leaders in the summer of 2026. Planning is underway for meetings with WA State officials, import/export specialists and Pasco business owners.

In the State of Colima salt is a prime example of Colima's top commodities. COPA's delegation had a chance to see first hand the process of making salt when Sal Real De Colima hosted a tour of its facility at Manzanillo, hosted by Jose Delgado.

The tour was arranged by Juan Jose Meza Nunez, President of CANACINTRA Colima. Juan Jose specializes in fostering collaboration between industry, government, and academia.

En octubre de 2025, COPA patrocinó y recibió a una delegación de estudiantes universitarios y docentes de la Unidad 061 de la Universidad Pedagógica Nacional (UPN). La UPN se especializa en la formación de futuros docentes y profesionales de la educación infantil.

Esta semana, en Colima, la administración de la UPN presentó un informe sobre el valor del viaje a Pasco. El informe fue presentado al Secretario de Educación y Cultura del Estado de Colima, Profesor Adolfo Núñez González.

Durante 10 días, 11 estudiantes y 4 docentes de la UPN participaron en contacto directo con WSU Tri-Cities, Columbia Basin College y el Distrito Escolar de Pasco. La delegación también visitó guarderías y centros de educación infantil de agencias públicas y privadas.

Antes del viaje a Pasco, los estudiantes de la UPN se reunieron virtualmente con estudiantes de WSU Tri-Cities durante varias semanas, donde leyeron un libro juntos como parte de un proyecto de inmersión lingüística.

Lo más destacado del informe de la UPN: 1. La investigación internacional enriqueció la formación docente. 2. Se comparó la educación impartida a la población latina de Pasco con la de las comunidades indígenas de Colima. 3. Se ayudó a UPN a identificar estrategias teóricas y prácticas para mejorar los programas de educación en ciencias y artes, y destacar las mejores prácticas docentes. 4. Se facilitó la planificación de prácticas profesionales de 3 a 4 semanas en guarderías de Pasco.

La dirección de UPN confirmó los planes para traer un segundo grupo de estudiantes y docentes a Pasco en el otoño de 2026.

La delegación cubrió sus gastos de viaje a Pasco, y los estudiantes realizaron diversas actividades de recaudación de fondos en Colima. COPA se enorgulleció de proporcionar alojamiento, comidas y transporte a la delegación durante su visita.

In October 2025, COPA sponsored and hosted a delegation of university students and instructors from Unit 061 of the National Pedagogical University (UPN). UPN specializes in training future teachers and early childhood education professionals.

This week, UPN's administration presented a report regarding the value of the Pasco trip. The report was presented to State of Colima Secretary of Education and Culture, Professor Adolfo Nunez Gonzalez.

For 10 days, 11 students and 4 instructors from UPN participated in direct engagement with WSU Tri-Cities, Columbia Basin College, and Pasco School District. The delegation also visited private and public agency daycare and early childhood education facilities.

Prior to the trip to Pasco, UPN students met with WSU Tri-Cities students virtually for several weeks, jointly reading a book together as part of a language immersion project.

The highlights of the UPN report: 1. The international research enriched teacher training. 2. Provided a comparison between the education provided to Pasco's Latino population and the indigenous communities in Colima. 3. Helped UPN identify theoretical and practical strategies to improve science and arts education programs and highlight best teaching practices. 4. Facilitated planning for 3- to 4-week internships at Pasco childcare facilities.

The UPN leadership confirmed plans to bring a second group of students and teachers to Pasco in the fall of 2026.

The delegation covered its travel expenses to Pasco - with students conducting a variety of fundraisers in Colima. COPA proudly provided housing, meals and transportation for the delegation during its visit.

COPA & Encanto Arts are proud to co-sponsor tonight's concert in Colima produced by Coro Beatum! Our friend and Maestro Miguel Angel Alatorre is conducting. Performing tonight are two members of the Tri-Cities-based Mid-Columbia Master Singers Justin Raffa and Jacqueline Green. Encanto Arts President Jose Iniguez is serving as emcee. The "Colonel Pedro Torres Ortiz" University Theater is host for RETRO FEST SINFÓNICO 🪩, a space where the music of the 70s and 80s will come alive in a night full of talent, memories, and great sound. 🎼🎤
