Over a year ago Avery wrote this.
At the time our community had just gone through the fires. Everyone was focused on survival.
But Avery noticed something else.
Her friends didn’t just need basics. They needed things that helped them feel like themselves again.
We used to talk about this as something that mattered during times of crisis.
But we’ve learned it matters before, during, and after.
That’s why Altadena Girls exists.

Altadena Girls — and our founder Avery Colvert alongside her mom and Cofounder Lauren Sandidge— are honored to be among the 2026 Inc. Female Founders 500.
Altadena Girls began when Avery wanted to help her friends after the fires in Altadena. What has grown since belongs to the girls, families, volunteers, and partners who continue to show up and build this space together.
This recognition reflects the power of community and what’s possible when girls are given space to create, connect, and lead.
Thank you to everyone who continues to build Altadena Girls with us. 💗
Thank you Inc. Magazine.

Periods don’t stop during a crisis.

Not during wildfires.
Not when families are displaced.
Not when a parent is detained.
Not when money suddenly gets tight.

But access to period products does.

At Altadena Girls, we pay attention to the needs of teen girls that often get overlooked.

Tomorrow we are teaming up with The Pad Project to learn about menstrual equity and pack period care kits that will go to girls across PUSD.

Come help us pack kits and support girls in our community.

Black History Month holds deep meaning here in Altadena — a historically Black community shaped by generations of leadership, creativity, and resilience.

We honor that history with respect and gratitude.

At Altadena Girls, we are committed to building a space where Black girls feel safe, seen, and supported — today and always.
