Boyle Heights Back-to-School Celebration 🎒📚

Back-to-school season is about community, and we were honored to bring resources, support, and a little celebration to Boyle Heights! 💜

In partnership with Council District 14 and Councilmember Ysabel Jurado, Neighborhood Survants was proud to help provide backpacks and school supplies to local students. We donated the majority of the backpacks, while Council District 14 generously contributed the other half on behave of Bee Spoke , helping us reach even more families.

A very special thank you to Mayor Karen Bass for joining us, personally passing out backpacks, and continuing to show up for Los Angeles families. Your support means so much! 💜

We’re also incredibly grateful to the organizations who helped make this celebration possible through their generous donations and support:
🎒 Baby2Baby
📚 Lutheran World Relief
💙 CCF

And thank you to The Neighborhood Orchestra and VibeLA AI for helping make the day even more special with entertainment and community connection!

This is what happens when we come together—organizations, city leaders, partners, volunteers, and neighbors—all working toward the same goal: making sure our young people have what they need to start the school year feeling prepared, supported, and celebrated. ✨

Boyle Heights, thank you for letting us be part of your community! 🎒❤️

🎒✨ Back-to-school season is better when we do it together!

Neighborhood Survants was proud to partner with PACTL at the Eaton Fire Collaborative for a special back-to-school event supporting local students and families.

Together, we provided 80 backpacks, each filled with the school supplies students need to start the year prepared and confident — plus plenty of popcorn and smiles along the way! 🍿📚

These moments are about more than backpacks. They’re about showing up, creating connection, and reminding our community that we’re in this together. ❤️

Thank you to PACTL and the Eaton Fire Collaborative for continuing to create spaces where families feel supported and students feel seen.

Here’s a little look back at the day. 📸✨

💗 WE OUT HERE — AND WE’RE HONORED TO BE RECOGNIZED! 💗

What a beautiful day in Altadena! We were truly blessed to be part of the grand opening of the We Out Here Altadena Community Corner, a new space created to connect, support, and build community together. 🫶🏾✨

And then… we were surprised with something that meant so much to us. 🥹🏆

Neighborhood Survants received the 10 Toes Down Family Award!

We want to give a HUGE and heartfelt thank you to Krystal Lopez , CEO of The Juicy Little Society, for this incredible honor and, more importantly, for everything you continue to do for the Altadena community.

Krystal, Krystal “Miss Juicy Little” Lopez you are creating more than a space — you’re creating a place where people can come together, find resources, feel supported, and know that Altadena is still standing and still showing up for one another. ❤️‍🔥

To be recognized by someone who is putting so much love, energy, and work into our community is something we will never take for granted.

Thank you for allowing Neighborhood Survants to be part of this special day, for believing in our work, and for recognizing the heart behind what we do.

Congratulations on the We Out Here Altadena Community Corner! 🎉💗

We are honored to stand beside you, support your vision, and continue showing up for our community — 10 toes down!

We Out Here… and We Gon Stay Out Here. PERIODT

I couldn’t have done this alone. ❤️

I’ve been reflecting on this year’s Dena Community Backpack Giveaway, and while I’m incredibly proud of what we accomplished—5,000 students supported—what keeps coming to my mind are the people who made it happen.

The volunteers.

The ones who showed up early.
The ones who stayed late.
The ones who lifted, packed, organized, directed, cleaned, greeted, encouraged, problem-solved, and kept things moving when things got a little crazy.

The ones who didn’t just volunteer their time.

They gave their energy, their patience, and their hearts.

I want to take a moment to say something that doesn’t always get said enough:

I could not do this by myself.

There is an entire village behind Neighborhood Survants.

Every backpack represents someone who donated.
Every smiling family represents someone who volunteered.
Every successful moment represents a partner who said yes.
Every student served represents a community that chose to show up.

And to the people who have stood beside me—not just this year, but throughout this journey—I see you. I appreciate you. And I love you.

This work can be exhausting. It can be overwhelming. And sometimes, when you’re in the middle of making something happen, you don’t always have time to stop and recognize the people carrying it with you.

So this post is for you.

To my volunteers: THANK YOU. ❤️

Thank you for believing in the vision.

Thank you for believing in our children.

Thank you for believing in me.

What happened at the Rose Bowl wasn’t because of one person.

It happened because a community came together.

And that’s the part I will carry with me long after the backpacks are gone.

5,000 students. Hundreds of helping hands. One incredible community.

This is what Neighborhood Survants is about.

And we’re just getting started. ❤️

What a day. What a community. ❤️

As we reflect on the 3rd Annual Dena Community Backpack Giveaway at the Rose Bowl, we are filled with one word: gratitude.

This year also marks 13 years of service for our founder, Michelle White, and this event continues to grow because of a shared belief in our children and our community.

To every family, volunteer, sponsor, partner, and supporter—thank you. Your time, energy, and generosity made this day possible.

To the Rose Bowl, Rose Bowl Institute, Pasadena Educational Foundation, Project Passion, and all of our incredible partners—thank you for standing with us and helping bring this vision to life.

This event has never just been about backpacks.
It’s about showing up for our kids, building confidence, and reminding families they are not alone.

And while we are proud of what was accomplished, we are not done yet—we are still working hard to provide more backpacks, expand our reach, and create even more community events with even more partners.

What started as a small effort has grown into a movement—and with your continued support, it will keep growing.

Many more events. Many more partnerships. Many more years to come.

With gratitude,
❤️ Neighborhood Survants

🚨 DAY 1️⃣ | Tomorrow We Serve ❤️🎒

Tomorrow is more than an event.

Tomorrow is a reminder of what happens when a community comes together with one purpose: making sure every child starts the school year feeling confident, prepared, and supported.

What began as a small backpack giveaway at Jackie Robinson Park has grown into a movement that now serves nearly 4,000 families at the Rose Bowl Stadium. And none of it would be possible without our incredible volunteers, partners, donors, sponsors, and community members who have believed in this mission every step of the way.

Tomorrow, we’ll celebrate more than backpacks.

We’ll celebrate hope.

We’ll celebrate resilience.

We’ll celebrate the power of neighbors helping neighbors.

To every family joining us, we can’t wait to welcome you.

To every volunteer, thank you for giving your time and heart.

To every partner and sponsor, thank you for investing in our community and believing in our children.

❤️ This is why we do what we do.
