This morning, residents were treated to an incredible view of a unique “jellyfish cloud” following a SpaceX launch from Cape Canaveral!

As the rocket ascended into the upper atmosphere, its exhaust plume expanded, creating the distinctive jellyfish-like shape visible across Florida’s skies. When sunlight illuminates the plume at high altitude, it can create a remarkable display long after sunset or sunrise at ground level.

While these sights can be breathtaking, they’re also a reminder of just how far the effects of a rocket launch can be seen from here on the Suncoast! 🚀🌎

From all of us at Manatee County Search & Rescue, we hope everyone enjoyed this spectacular view of Florida’s skies!

💚 World Mental Health Day | October 10 💚

Mental health is part of our overall health, and caring for it matters. Search and rescue work can bring stress, difficult calls, and experiences that stay with us. It’s okay to talk about how you’re doing and ask for support.

Small steps can help: stay connected with people you trust, make time for rest and activities you enjoy, get outside or move your body, keep a routine, and reach out to a mental health professional when you need more support. Checking in with a friend or teammate can make a difference, too.

If things start to feel overwhelming, don’t wait until you’re at a breaking point. Tell someone you trust, contact a counselor or health care professional, or call or text 988 for the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. You can also chat at 988Lifeline.org. Support is available 24/7.

If you’re worried someone may be thinking about su***de, ask how they’re doing, listen without judgment, and help them connect with support. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.

You are not alone. Your life matters, and help is available. 💚

Manatee County residents: Isaias is currently forecast to impact the northern Gulf Coast, with the greatest impacts expected well north of our area. While significant tropical-storm-force winds are not currently expected in Manatee County, conditions and the forecast can change.

Now is the time to prepare—not when conditions deteriorate.

🏠 Is your home ready?
🚗 Do you have an evacuation plan?
📍 Do you know your evacuation zone?
📱 Do you have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts?
🎒 Is your emergency kit ready?

Residents along the Manatee County coast and in low-lying or flood-prone areas should pay particular attention to updated forecasts, local emergency management guidance, and any evacuation information that may be issued.

Prepare now. Stay informed. Stay safe.

⚠️ FLOOD ADVISORY – MANATEE COUNTY ⚠️

The National Weather Service Tampa Bay–Ruskin has issued a Flood Advisory for portions of Manatee and Hillsborough Counties.

🕐 Effective: Until 1:00 AM Thursday, October 8

🌧️ What to Expect:
Heavy thunderstorms have already produced 1–3 inches of rainfall, with an additional 1–2 inches possible. Minor flooding is expected, particularly in low-lying areas, urban areas, and locations with poor drainage.

📍 Areas of Manatee County that may experience flooding include:

Bradenton

Palmetto

Parrish

Ellenton

Memphis

Northwestern Manatee County

🚨 SAFETY REMINDER

Turn Around, Don't Drown.

Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway. Water depth and road conditions can be difficult to judge, especially at night, and floodwaters can quickly become dangerous.

If you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around and find an alternate route.

Please remain weather aware, use caution while traveling, and monitor trusted sources for additional updates.

🌧️ NATIONAL NIGHT OUT HAS BEEN CANCELLED

Unfortunately, due to the weather, tonight’s Bradenton Police Department National Night Out Block Party has been CANCELLED.

We were looking forward to seeing everyone, bringing the rescue truck, and meeting the community. Safety always comes first, especially when Mother Nature decides to join the party. 🌩️

But don’t worry—we’ll be back! We’ll let everyone know as soon as the event is rescheduled.

Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to see everyone at the rescheduled event! 🧡🖤

🌧️ WEATHER UPDATE: INVEST 92L

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring Invest 92L, a broad area of low pressure currently located over the southwestern Gulf of America.

The system is becoming better organized, and a tropical depression could form within the next day or so as it moves generally eastward before potentially turning north or northeast toward the northern Gulf Coast later this week.

🔴 Current formation chances: • 90% within 48 hours • 90% within 7 days

At this time, it is too early to determine the exact track, strength, or specific impacts for Florida. Forecast models continue to show different possible scenarios, and those forecasts are expected to change as the system becomes better defined.

🌧️ What we know right now

Regardless of the eventual track, heavy rainfall and the potential for flash flooding are the primary concerns, particularly across North Florida and the Panhandle.

Some areas of the Panhandle could receive 5–7+ inches of additional rainfall, with isolated higher totals possible. Portions of North Florida are already saturated from recent rainfall, which could increase the potential for flooding.

There is also the potential for severe thunderstorms, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes depending on the eventual track and development of the system.

👀 What should you do?

For those of us here in Florida, now is the time to stay informed—not panic.

• Don't focus on a single forecast model or projected path.
• Monitor updates from trusted sources.
• Know your flood risk and have a plan.
• Make sure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
• If you have outdoor equipment, boats, or other items that could become a problem in strong winds or flooding, start thinking about securing them.

The next name on the list is Isaias (ees-ah-EE-ahs).

MCSAR will continue monitoring the situation and will share relevant information as the forecast becomes clearer.

For the latest official information, follow the National Hurricane Center and your local National Weather Service office.

Stay weather aware. Stay informed. Stay safe.

🚨 Forecasts can and will change. Don't make decisions based on a single model run or social media post.
