Scientists at the University of Nottingham have made a groundbreaking discovery - a gel that can regrow tooth enamel using proteins found in saliva. This bioinspired material mimics the natural process of enamel formation, offering a fluoride-free solution to cavities and sensitivity. The gel works by guiding minerals from saliva to rebuild enamel, restoring strength and reducing sensitivity.

It's applied quickly, similar to fluoride varnishes, but with longer-lasting effects. Early testing shows the regrown enamel behaves like natural enamel, making it a safer and more effective alternative.

Mintech-Bio is already working to bring this gel into clinical practice, potentially revolutionizing preventive and restorative dentistry.

One quote: "While the evidence was not entirely consistent, most of the higher-quality studies analyzed in the review found links between acetaminophen and an increased risk of neurodevelopmental disorders in offspring, with the strongest associations seen when acetaminophen was taken during the second and third trimesters."

A systematic review of 46 studies, published in the journal Environmental Health, found that the majority of studies reported that taking acetaminophen/paracetamol (the active ingredient in Tylenol) during pregnancy is associated with an increased incidence of neurodevelopmental disorders in childre...

Yale students discovered a fungus, Pestalotiopsis microspora, in the Amazon rainforest that can digest polyurethane plastic. By releasing enzymes that break down tough chemical bonds, the fungus converts plastic into organic compounds it uses for energy, offering a natural solution to plastic pollution.

Just a rant regarding cholesterol myths and truths ----

We need HEALTHY cholesterol for the brain. Healthy cholesterol can be found in foods that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, like fatty fish (like salmon & mackerel), nuts (especially walnuts), and seeds (i.e. flaxseeds & chia seeds). Also, avocados and olive oil have beneficial fats that will support overall brain health. The article below has a lot of details for further info.

The Role of Cholesterol in the Brain
Cholesterol is a vital component of every cell membrane in the body, and it is especially abundant in the brain, which contains about 25% of the body’s total cholesterol. In the brain, cholesterol is essential for:
1. Neuron Function: Cholesterol helps form and maintain the myelin sheath, the protective covering that insulates nerve fibers and facilitates the efficient transmission of electrical impulses between neurons. Without adequate cholesterol, communication between brain cells slows down, leading to cognitive impairment.
2. Synapse Formation: Cholesterol is critical for the formation and function of synapses, the connections between neurons that allow for memory, learning, and overall brain plasticity. Studies show that low levels of cholesterol impair synaptic function and hinder the brain’s ability to form new memories.
3. Neurotransmitter Activity: Cholesterol regulates the activity of neurotransmitter receptors in the brain, influencing mood, cognition, and overall mental well-being.
Cholesterol and Dementia: What the Research Shows
Several studies have suggested that higher levels of cholesterol may offer protective benefits for cognitive function, particularly in older adults.
1. Cholesterol and Cognitive Decline: A large-scale study published in the journal *Alzheimer’s & Dementia* examined over 1,800 elderly participants and found that those with higher levels of total cholesterol had a significantly lower risk of developing dementia compared to those with lower cholesterol levels. The authors proposed that cholesterol might help protect against the cognitive decline that leads to Alzheimer’s disease.
2. Cholesterol Levels and Alzheimer’s Risk: Another study published in *Neurology* followed over 1,000 individuals aged 70 and above for several years. The researchers found that participants with higher cholesterol levels in late life had a reduced risk of Alzheimer’s disease, highlighting the role of cholesterol in maintaining brain structure and function during aging.
3. Link Between LDL Cholesterol and Dementia: Interestingly, a study in *The Lancet* found that higher levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, often called “bad cholesterol,” were inversely associated with the risk of dementia. This challenges the common perception that lower cholesterol is always better and suggests that cholesterol may play a neuroprotective role .
Cholesterol and Movement Disorders
Cholesterol’s benefits extend beyond cognitive health and may also reduce the risk of movement disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease. Several studies suggest that cholesterol is involved in the brain’s ability to regulate movement and motor function.
1. Parkinson’s Disease and Cholesterol: A study published in *Movement Disorders* revealed that individuals with higher LDL cholesterol levels had a lower risk of developing Parkinson’s disease. Researchers hypothesized that cholesterol might protect dopamine-producing neurons in the brain, which are critical for smooth motor control.
2. Statins and Increased Risk of Parkinson’s: Paradoxically, some studies have linked the use of statins, cholesterol-lowering medications, to an increased risk of Parkinson’s disease. A 2017 study published in *Movement Disorders* found that individuals who discontinued statin therapy (and consequently had higher cholesterol levels) had a lower risk of Parkinson’s disease progression. This suggests that artificially lowering cholesterol may not always be beneficial for neurological health.
Supporting Brain Health Through Lifestyle
To support healthy cholesterol levels and brain function, consider adopting these lifestyle strategies:
1. Eat brain-healthy fats. Incorporate omega-3 fatty acids from sources like wild-caught fish, bison meat and organs, avocado, flaxseeds, and walnuts. Healthy fats promote cholesterol balance and are vital for brain health.
2. Get sleep, sunshine, and physical activity.
3. Avoid toxins like pesticides, plastics and mold/bacteria.
4. Avoid statin drugs and all other pharmaceuticals

Cholesterol plays a crucial role in the brain, and emerging evidence suggests that higher levels of cholesterol are associated with better cognitive function and a lower risk of neurological disorders like dementia and Parkinson's disease. Let's explore why cholesterol is important for brain health.

It is with great personal sadness that I must convey the message that the venerable Michael Reynolds has passed. He was 82 years old and a giant in Alternative Health Care innovations. We became fast friends when he flew in to speak at an event that we at Visionary Alternatives sponsored at The Boca Raton Resort in November of 1999. He was a brilliant orator and an incredibly kind and knowledgeable gentleman. When we met in 1999 he had already created alternative cancer clinics in Mexico, Dominican Republic and Switzerland. I visited his clinics in Mexico and Switzerland. His clinic in Mexico was accommodating two extra patients a month for free at that time. He continued his efforts both through the creation of new clinics in Europe and the Caribbean Islands and with his production of Broccoli sprout juice. His juice production was quite successful and grew to include more products for the benefit of personal health. Hopefully, his legacy will live on through his company, Vegusjuices.com which is still in operation. I miss him so very much. He was one of the kindest and most humble human beings I have ever come across. God bless you Michael. Sincerely, Jane Tobal, PhD; Visionary Alternatives, Inc.

"Lung tumors in people who have never smoked show DNA mutations linked to air pollution, suggesting a major environmental role in the disease’s global surge."

"A global study of 871 never-smokers found a direct connection between fine-particle air pollution and cancer-driving DNA mutations in lung tumors.
Specific mutations tied to smoking, including those in the TP53 gene, were also found in patients exposed to air pollution, suggesting similar damage pathways."
