This adoption felt like such a HUGE achievement.
The Millers had been approved with us for a while and were searching for their perfect match. And when we say they were dedicated, we mean it!
He traveled, asked questions, and had conversations with multiple fosters. He didn’t rush the process or pick a dog based on a photo. He wanted to make sure he found the right fit — and we couldn’t have asked for a better approach.
Funny enough, we knew Rocko was going to be the one for him… even though Rocko wasn’t his initial interest!
After meeting Rocko and spending some time together, it was clear that it was meant to be. This is exactly what we hope for with every adoption — not the fastest match, but the right match. Rocko is still receiving treatment for heart worms as he tested positive at the shelter we pulled him from. They’ve also already booked training with a trainer in their area!
Congratulations, Rocko & family! We are SO happy for you.

Linda — Listen!
This is why rescue matters!
With the help of some rescue partners, we were able to save Linda from one of the popular dumping grounds in the Redlands area, Florida. She came to us needing extensive medical care, including bloodwork, X-rays, a spay, and a mastectomy.
She spent quite a while in rescue without much interest. Sadly, being an older and black dog can make finding a forever family even harder.
And now… SHE’S ADOPTED!
Linda was being fostered by our Director, who grew fond of this sweet girl during her time in rescue. We couldn’t be happier that Linda found the loving home she deserves.

Heidi was one of five Belgian Malinois surrendered to us in the middle of the night. She had an amazing time with her foster/trainer, Cameryn, where she built a solid foundation for an active and sporting lifestyle. We had lots of interest in Heidi, but unfortunately, no one seemed ready to fully commit or complete the application process.

Finally in July everything fell into place!
Heidi was adopted by Shane, and we couldn’t be more excited for this girl and her new life. We’re so happy she found her person and wishing Shane and Heidi a lifetime of adventures together!

If a rescue is allowing dogs and cats to have litters, or god forbid, ACTIVELY stopping already scheduled spays for pregnant animals, they are unethical. It is boutique rescue. They force these poor animals to deliver and raise litters all for money. They may be worse than backyard breeders to me because they make it seem like they’re doing a good thing.

August, you’ve been ROUGH so far.
We’ve been deep in the trenches over here, and while there have been some extremely hard moments, there have also been some AMAZING things happening that we haven’t had a chance to share yet.
So, I’m hoping to highlight one positive thing every day until we’re caught up!
Today’s shoutout goes to Tammy Leatherwood with The Leash Less Traveled LLC.
Tammy has been a foster for PLAY! K9 Rescue for longer than I can even remember. She has a large personal pack of her own, and recently she’s been dealing with a medical emergency within her pack.
That emergency happened AFTER Tammy had already committed to hosting a fundraiser for PLAY! K9 Rescue.
But did she cancel? Nope. She hosted, organized, and led the night wonderfully! She also brought in her mom to foster for us, AND she was fostering 2 of our dogs at this time.
On August 14th, Tammy hosted an enrichment class to benefit PLAY! K9 Rescue and raised OVER $460 to help us tackle our ever-growing medical bills (Indy, Hero, & Mojo).
And in true Tammy fashion… she was so busy making everything happen that she got ZERO photos.
Unfortunately, you all have to take our word for it — it was awesome, and it made a HUGE difference to us.
Tammy, THANK YOU.
Thank you for showing up for our dogs. Thank you for continuing to support us even when things are hard at home. Thank you for putting your own time, energy and resources into helping our rescue 💙💙💙.
