About Walleye Classic

ORIGINS…The City Auto Glass Walleye Classic began in 2006 on Lake Vermilion, with 35 boats fishing, and a cash prize of $3,400 paid to our winning team. The City Auto Glass Walleye Classic became the Safelite Walleye Classic in 2024 following the purchase of City Auto Glass by Safelite. Now heading into our 21st year in 2026, our tournament continues to grow, with anglers fr

om around Minnesota and the upper Midwest competing to take home the guaranteed grand prize of $17,000, plus the honor of being the champions of one of the largest walleye tournaments in Minnesota! In all, we award more than $50,000 in cash, prizes and merchandise each year. PROCEEDS…The Safelite Walleye Classic is a non-profit event, produced by The CAG Foundation. Since 2006, we have donated nearly $700,000 to area youth camps, high school and college students, with funds designed to help further the education of hard-working and success-seeking area young people! Just as we work hard to produce a quality tournament, we try to reward students who are doing the same thing with their future potential! PEOPLE…The Safelite Walleye Classic is produced by The CAG Foundation. Tournament Director is Jamie Lindseth, and Tournament Chair is Red Lowen. In addition, we rely on the help of numerous volunteers, including area Kiwanis Club members, plus friends, family, and our business partners. ELEVATOR SPEECH… The Safelite Walleye Classic happens the second Saturday of the Minnesota fishing season each year, on one of Minnesota’s best walleye lakes, and gives a pair of lucky anglers the chance to win $17,000 in one day, just for catching some fish!!!
