The Bergen County Central Trades & Labor Council was proud to be in attendance at the 2026 NJ State AFL-CIO Legislative & COPE Conference in Atlantic City.

Under the leadership of NJ State AFL-CIO President Charles Wowkanech and Secretary-Treasurer Laurel Brennan, and joined by national AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler, our movement endorsed pro-worker champions and backed a new push to protect workers from the dangers of AI on the job. This is what solidarity looks like.

On May Day, we celebrate all that we have accomplished through our labor movement. Throughout our history, workers have fought for the right to organize, for an eight-hour workday, and for safe workplaces. Today, we continue that fight for a better future for all working people.

This is not an April Fools joke.

St. Louis County could lose out on federal funding because of its use of project labor agreements.

Project Labor Agreements work. They ensure projects are built ON TIME by skilled workers, with fair wages, strong safety standards, and real accountability.

Efforts to undermine PLAs don’t help taxpayers. They lower wages, weaken training, and push the industry into a race to the bottom.

What’s at stake isn’t politics. It’s your paycheck, your community, and the quality of the work being done.

St. Louis County might remove Project Labor Agreements from upcoming construction bids due to changes at the federal level.
