“Stay proud to be Jewish.” That was Eliya Cohen’s message last night as he along with his wife shared their story of captivity, survival and love. We heard the unimaginable, and we also saw love, strength and a refusal to be broken. October 7th is all of our story, and we’re grateful to the many community partners who came together for this evening. 💙

October 7 changed Israel. It also changed what it meant to be Jewish around the world.

In the days, months and years that followed, Jewish communities everywhere faced a new reality. Rising antisemitism. Fear. Grief. And difficult conversations many never imagined having.

But October 7 also reminded us of the strength of Jewish community. We showed up for Israel. We showed up for one another. And we refused to hide who we are.

As we mark October 7, Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey remembers the lives taken, continues to hold the hostages and their families in our hearts, and stands with Jewish people everywhere.

We remember. We stand together. We remain strong.
May the memories of those we lost be a blessing. 🎗️🇮🇱

On October 8, our community will come together to remember, reflect, and hear two powerful perspectives on October 7.

Ziv Abud survived the Nova Festival attack and spent the next 505 days advocating for the release of her then-fiancé, Eliya Cohen. Eliya was kidnapped from the Nova Festival and held hostage under extreme conditions.

Now married, Ziv and Eliya will share their individual stories of survival, resilience, and what came after.

Join Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey and our partner organizations for this meaningful evening of remembrance, reflection, and community.
