Next week, the MVP Technical Committee will meet to discuss our Transportation Improvement Plan or TIP, and the projects that we hope to move forward for federal funding over the next four years!

The committee brings together representatives from MVP, the Mat-Su Borough, the Cities of Palmer and Wasilla, Alaska DOT&PF, Mat-Su School District, public transit and active transportation advocates, Chickaloon Native Village, Knik Tribe, and other regional partners.

These conversations help shape transportation planning and the future of how people move throughout the Mat-Su Valley. The meeting is open to the public!

DOT&PF will hold a Virtual Public Meeting on October 6, 2026.

The Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities (DOT&PF) will hold a Virtual Public Meeting on the Draft 2027–2030 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Join them for a brief presentation on the Draft 2027-2030 STIP. Staff will be available to answer questions about the Draft STIP and document public comments. Projects included in the STIP support a wide range of infrastructure improvements, including roads, ferries, transit systems, trails, and safety enhancements that connect communities and strengthen Alaska’s economy. DOT&PF encourages public participation in the review process.

What will transportation in the Mat-Su look like in 2050? You can help shape it.

MatSu 2050 is our region’s first Metropolitan Transportation Plan, identifying transportation goals, priorities, and projects for the years ahead.

And this plan matters. Projects must be included in the plan to be eligible for federal transportation funding, which means MatSu 2050 will help shape how federal dollars are invested in our community.

PUBLIC COMMENT NOW OPEN!

We are MatSu Valley Planning for Transportation and we are excited to announce that public comment is open for our very first metropolitan transportation plan. We are calling this plan, “MatSu 2050”.

The Mat-Su has grown more than 20% since 2010, making us Alaska's fastest-growing region. MatSu 2050 identifies the region’s transportation goals, priorities, and projects for the future. Having an adopted metropolitan transportation plan unlocks federal funding.

Projects must be included in the plan to receive federal dollars. Without this plan, we lose access to millions of dollars for road improvements, safety upgrades, and infrastructure. MatSu 2050, the MTP, offers the Mat-Su local control over federal investments, ensuring projects match the needs of our growing community.

And don’t forget, we are hosting an open house on Thursday, October 8th where you can learn more, ask questions, and enjoy some refreshments while learning about the plan. Public comment goes from October 1 - October 30, 2026.

There are three ways to comment on MVP’s MatSu 2050 Draft:

2) View our Virtual Open House and comment on the plan as well as specific projects
