Inspired by the vision of a Western retreat center that she had while living in the Himalayas and the need to create a place for the reemergence of the sacred feminine, Lama Tsultrim Allione founded Tara Mandala in 1993.

All summer, our retreat center in Colorado held footsteps, prayers, and practice. Now the land softens into fall, the pines stand watch, and the ridgelines open into autumn light.

Along the ridge, prayer flags are raised among pine and open sky, offering blessings to the wind. As Tara Mandala grows quiet, the flags remain in motion, carrying prayers across the 700 acres and beyond, for the benefit of all beings.

Understanding where our practices come from can deepen how we receive and embody them.

Beginning September 18, Heart of Buddhism traces the living history of Buddhism from the time of the Buddha through the ta***ic period, weaving historical understanding with practices from each era.

Guided by Lama Tsultrim Allione and an extraordinary circle of Buddhist teachers and scholars, this journey offers a foundation for deepening your relationship with the Dharma.

Skymind: The Radical Path of Open Awareness, the final on-land retreat of our summer season, is unfolding now at Tara Mandala, Colorado.

Awareness itself is vast enough to hold what arises: movement and stillness, clarity and uncertainty, joy and difficulty. Nothing needs to be pushed away for the spaciousness of mind to remain.

As Dorje Lopön Charlotte Rotterdam writes in Skymind, this capacity to hold all things in vast view can become a profound refuge - a remembering of the openness that is already here.
Perhaps today, simply notice: what changes when you rest for a moment in awareness itself?

Today, Amitabha Buddha Day and the full moon invite us into prayer, practice, and dedication.

Tonight, a partial lunar eclipse makes this an especially potent time for practice, when the merit of virtuous actions is traditionally understood to be amplified.

Offer a prayer, light a flame, or sponsor a butter lamp in devotion to Amitabha. May the merit of our practice be dedicated to the liberation of all beings.

Tara Mandala sends our heartfelt prayers to all those affected by the devastating flash floods and landslides along the Nepal–Tibet border.

Our hearts are with the families and communities of Rasuwa and Nuwakot, and with all those awaiting news of loved ones.

May those who are missing be found swiftly. May those who are suffering receive care and support. May all who are responding be protected and guided by courage and compassion.

We dedicate our practice to all beings affected by this disaster. 🙏

The world is calling for Green Tara’s radical compassion, courageous presence, and swift, awakened activity. Her practice invites us to respond to the suffering around us with hearts that remain open, minds rooted in clarity, and the courage to act for the benefit of all beings. Through Tara, compassion becomes more than an aspiration. It becomes a living force we can embody in how we meet one another and our world.

This Saturday, join Tulku Ösel Dorje for a free introduction to Green Tara and her 21 emanations, each expressing a distinct aspect of awakened compassion. Together, explore how Tara practice can support us in meeting personal and global challenges without closing our hearts.

Saturday, August 29 - 11:00am MDT | 6:00pm BST | 7:00pm CEST

Free online, open to all.
