We play a unique role in our community by rescuing the animals that are most at risk in the shelter environment: the underage, nursing, senior, injured, shy and overlooked animals. Adoption Program
We place homeless animals into good permanent homes by showcasing our animals at our satellite adoption centers, offsite events and our website. Volunteer Program
Volunteers provide foster homes, adopt

ion counseling, transportation, office assistance and much more to help the animals. Community Spay/Neuter Program
We are working to combat the overpopulation crisis in Monterey County with targeted spay/neuter programs to reduce the number of animals entering our shelters. AFRP Treasure Shop

😺Meet Our Adoptable Pet Food Express Cats!

We’ve got some amazing kitties waiting to meet you at the Pet Food Express Cat Center in Carmel, including bonded brothers Bobby & Peter Brady, Dr. Pepper, Barley, bonded sisters Tyler & Bodhi, and Jaime! These sweet cats would love some visitors and are hoping to find their forever families!🏡

This Sunday, May 31st from 11 AM – 2 PM, stop by Pet Food Express for a special Meet & Greet with AFRP! Come spend time with our adoptable cats, learn their stories, and maybe meet your new best friend😉

We’ll also have some of our adoptable pups joining the fun including Jock, Sully, Dug, and Finn! We'll see you there!

Meet Boats and Buoy! 🐾🧡

These adorable 2-month-old brothers came to us as bottle babies alongside their third brother, and after lots of love and care from their foster mom, they’ve grown into happy, thriving kittens ready for their forever homes. One brother has already been adopted, and now Boats and Buoy are ready to find loving homes of their own, either together or separately!

Boats and Buoy are an incredibly friendly pair of brothers with huge personalities and even bigger purrs! These sweet boys run right up to everyone with their tails held high, ready to play, explore, and make new friends. They are curious, confident, and full of energy, and will happily come right up to you until you give in and play with them.

These brothers are well socialized and are used to a busy home, including the foster family’s big cattle dog/husky mix, an adult cat, and humans of all ages. They are litter trained, eating well, and growing beautifully!

Meet Sedona 🐱💛

This petite 2-year-old beauty is impossible not to fall in love with once you meet her! Sedona is incredibly sweet, loves attention, and will happily rub against you until you pick her up for cuddles. She’s playful, loves teaser toys, and is very chatty with a big personality packed into a tiny body.

She’s still learning her manners during playtime, so she’ll do best with an experienced adopter and a home with children over 13.

Sedona is currently at Petco and is ready to meet her forever person 🐾

Happy National Rescue Dog Day from Dug and Sully!

Today we celebrate the dogs who overcame tough starts, the dogs still waiting patiently for their people, and the dogs who are finally safe, loved, and home 💜

Dug and Sully are two recent rescue pups who came into our care, and seeing their bright smiles and happy spirits despite whatever they’ve been through is such a reminder of why every rescue dog deserves a second chance. It’s why we do what we do 💜

Meet Indie, this week’s Pet of the Week! 💜🐾

Certified cutest meatball award goes to… Indie. 🏆 This Frenchie/Pug mix is full of personality, sunshine, and the cutest little bark to say hello (and yes, she makes sure you hear it). Deaf but totally unbothered, Indie takes on life with confidence and zero hesitation.

She loves to take sunny naps, enjoy a good game of fetch, and loves being right in the middle of whatever you’re doing.

It’s officially kitten season… which means tiny paws, cute little squeaks, and a whole lot of babies who need our help 🐾💜

Right now, our kitten fosters are caring for some of the tiniest, most vulnerable kittens, many of them require around-the-clock feeding and specialized care just to survive. Supplies like nursing bottles, heating pads, KMR, syringes, and kitten food may seem small, but they truly are lifesaving for these little ones.
