Last night’s TED Storytelling Workshop focused on the power of sharing our stories through video. Leading the conversation was special guest Jason Bellue, CEO of Flying House Media.

My ask for 15 minutes of his time turned into 60-plus. What unfolded was a series of magical moments that became a life-changing message for our rare disease community.

A former producer for Oprah and now an award-winning storyteller and filmmaker, Jason shared from the heart about the importance of authenticity, vulnerability, and human connection in storytelling.

He reminded us that when people living with TED and Graves’ disease courageously tell the hard parts of their journey, the moments that make someone else quietly say “me too,” healing and connection can be felt around the globe.

Thank you, Jason, for inspiring our community to move beyond fear and to see that each of our stories has the power to shatter loneliness and help others find their way to the other side of TED.

TED Research Opportunity: $200+ for Patient & Caregiver Feedback

We’re excited to share an opportunity from our partner, Design Science, for those living with Thyroid Eye Disease and their caregivers. Design Science is a healthcare research company that works with patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals to gather feedback and improve medical devices, making them safer and easier to use.

Study details:
• A one-time in-person 75-minute session in Philadelphia, Chicago. or nationwide
• Partnering with patients and caregivers of those with Thyroid Eye Disease or similar conditions
• $200+ per hour
• Spring–Fall 2026
• All studies are simulated—no medication or injections are required. The focus is on feedback and usability of the device

Prevent Blindness will host the first webinar of the 2026 Prevent Blindness Focus on Eye Health Webinar Series, titled “Vision Policy Across the Lifespan” on May 19 from 2:00-3:30 PM EST. The roundtable discussion will explore how partnerships can advance key public policy opportunities impacting eye care across the lifespan, including children’s vision and the Early Detection of Vision Impairments (EDVI) for Children Act, chronic disease and access issues among working-age adults, and healthy aging.

IMPORTANT NOTE FROM THE DRY EYE FOUNDATION:

I wanted to make sure you were aware of the developing recall situation with French manufacturer Excel Vision. Recalls have been announced for all lots of Systane Gel, Genteal Gel, and FreshKote PF as well as some lots of Ivizia Eye Drops, Optase Dry Eye Intense Multidose, and Oasis Tears PF Multidose.

Outside of the specific products listed here, no other products in the Systane, Genteal, Ivizia, Optase, or Oasis lines have been recalled as they are made at different manufacturers than Excel Vision. No ointments have been recalled.

TED Community is sharing information about the RAREis Scholarship Fund, which supports students living with rare diseases as they pursue higher education. The program provides $5,000 scholarships to individuals aged 17+ who are enrolled in or planning to enroll in undergraduate, graduate, or accredited vocational programs.

Many individuals are balancing their education alongside the challenges of living with a rare disease, and this scholarship was created to help support those journeys.
