Who We Are and What We Do
Since the Pacific Grove Art Center’s inception in 1969, it has been a vital cultural hub for the PG community, rooted in the Chautauqua movement and reflecting the vibrant hippie spirit of its founding year. The four exhibition galleries, that change exhibits every two months, showcase artists from all corners of Monterey County. Artists who create sculptures, paintings,
photographs, fabric arts, films, animations, and emerging digital art forms including Projection Mapping and Augmented Reality experiences and scenes. We also donate our community halls to non-profits, schools and youth organizations to showcase young artist. The Center offers affordable event space for community gatherings such as book signings, memorials, lectures, and recitals. The Hootenanny, The Improv, and the Carmel Guitar Society have found a home at the PG Art Center. With 18 studios available, local artists have access to creative spaces that foster public engagement with the arts. Why it Matters
As a 'third space,' the Art Center provides a safe and inclusive environment for social connection and civic engagement. It encourages individuals from diverse backgrounds to interact, exchange ideas, and collaborate on creative projects, reinforcing the social infrastructure necessary for vibrant communities. The Art Center contributes directly to the community's well-being by being a cornerstone of cultural and social life in Pacific Grove and the greater Monterey County.
