33 Seniors, 33 New Beginnings 🏡

This past month, 33 of our senior dogs went home with families of their own. Each one came to us needing a second chance, and each one found it.

Congratulations and so much love to Edna, Walrus, Gingerbread, Margaret, Pepsi, Mini Cooper, Pat Sajak, Davie, Johnny Carson, Rafiki, Joon, Benny Bear, Richard Dawson, Carl, Bruno, Fritter, Poppy, Dug, Chicken Nugget, Lenny, Neptune, Koko, Miss Marley, Bow Tie, Gracie, Zazu, Mia, Benz, Katsu, Cadbury, Mako, Blitzen, and Phylo!

Our Helping Paw program kept busy too 🐾 We provided financial assistance 113 times, sent our volunteers out on 21 Walking Brigades, and placed 5 dogs in temporary foster care so seniors could focus on getting well, knowing their dogs were safe.

Thank you to our adopters, fosters, volunteers, and donors for making a month like this possible. We couldn’t do any of it without you.

In Loving Memory of Yeti 🌈

It’s with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Yeti, who passed away recently after a long, brave stretch with heart and kidney disease.

Yeti joined us last November from Contra Costa Animal Services, a gentle senior with a soft face and an easy way about him. He made friends wherever he went.

For almost a year, he lived with his foster mom, Sandra, who made sure he had a cozy bed, a family around him, and plenty of beach walks with sand under his paws 🐾 When Sandra had to travel, Courtney stepped in as his temporary foster and cared for him tenderly through his final weeks.

Our vet staff fought hard for him to the very end, and they made sure he was comfortable and never alone. We’re so thankful to all of them, and to Sandra and Courtney, for loving him so well.
Rest easy, Yeti. We’ll miss you.

This tiny gentleman has a soft spirit and the sweetest gray muzzle. He’s known some hard days, but he still nudges your hand for pets like he’s thanking you for being there.

He follows his foster parent from room to room, loves to cuddle 🐾, and sleeps soundly through the night. He’s also happy riding along in a pouch or sling and gets along well with other dogs.
Give him a warm lap and a little kindness, and he’ll give you his whole heart ❤️

Potato is strikingly pretty, and she knows it. Pink is her signature color, and she turns heads everywhere she goes. 💕

She loves car rides and naps, and she'll follow her favorite person from room to room. She's crate-trained and well-mannered, so she'd do great with someone who works from home or is retired.

Potato is almost completely deaf and doesn't let it bother her one bit. She has allergies and does well on a prescription hydrolyzed protein food. She's friendly with dogs out on walks but would like to be the only dog at home, since she doesn't love sharing her people or her spotlight. 🥔

She came to us when her last home was no longer the right fit, after first landing in a shelter around the time of the L.A. fires.

Nougat has a talent for finding the best seat in the house, which is usually your lap. He's affectionate and easygoing, and his soulful eyes make him very hard to say no to.

🦮 He does nicely on leash and looks forward to his daily walks. He's friendly when he meets other dogs, and he's just as happy with a stroll as he is with a slow afternoon on the couch.

Nougat was found as a stray and brought to Santa Clara County Animal Services, who reached out to us for help. His calm nature would suit a lot of homes, and he'd be a lovely match for a senior who wants a gentle older companion.

Bumper Car is blind, but she gets around with her nose and ears and learns a new room faster than you'd expect. She follows the sound of your voice and always finds her way to a cozy spot beside you.

She's sweet with a spunky streak, and she gets along beautifully with other dogs and cats. Her gentle energy makes her easy company, and she'll make you laugh more than once a day. 🐾

Bumper Car came from the Sacramento Animal Shelter as a stray, though you'd never guess it from her cheerful attitude. She's ready for a home that treats her like the little treasure she is.

Barnabas might be the gentlest "vampire" you'll ever meet. His soft, curly cream coat and kind eyes give him away the second you see him.

He has no interest in spells. What he wants is your favorite spot on the couch, and he'll gladly share it if you sit close. 🧛 Barnabas loves human affection and would keep anyone warm through the colder months.

He joined us from San Jose Animal Care & Services, where they felt a rescue would give him his best chance at a home. He needs a foster or adopter who's happy to spoil him.

🎃 Salem has an inky black coat with little white markings, and he looks like he wandered out of a Halloween storybook. His big, soulful eyes do most of the talking.

He's a sweet boy with no spells to cast. He's small enough to tuck in right beside you on the couch, and he'd love a home with soft beds and plenty of attention.

Salem was found as a stray and came to us from Bradshaw Animal Shelter in Sacramento. A foster or forever home this fall would give him the happy ending he's been waiting for.

Edgar Allan Paw would rather live a good story than read one. He's a spunky little guy who greets every person with excitement, and he settles into new places fast.

He loves playing with other dogs, then curling up next to you once the fun winds down. Take him on a run or a slow walk to look around and he's happy either way. 🐕 Nobody seems to have told him he's an older dog.

Edgar came to us from Sacramento Animal Care and Regulation, where they felt he'd do better with a rescue that knows older dogs. He needs a foster or adopter who can keep up with his adventures.

Lucy was named after the famously sassy Peanuts character, but our Lucy is the sweetest little love bug you could meet. She’s a mellow, gentle girl who loves being around her people and is happiest soaking up affection. Her scruffy good looks and sweet personality make her pretty hard to resist.

She does wonderfully with other dogs and would be happy to share her home with a canine companion. 🐕 Lucy doesn’t need a lot of fuss. A cozy spot, some love, and her people nearby are all it takes to make her day.

If you’re looking for an easygoing little companion with a whole lot of love to give, Lucy may be your girl.
