Since 1966, Edgewood's mission is to to help children live purposeful and transformed lives.

History of Edgewood Children's Ranch

In 1966 Juvenile Court Judge D. Arthur Yergey saw a need for a residential facility for young boys who had exhibited negative social behavior due to family circumstances. This led Judge Yergey to John W. “Jack” Lynd, who subsequently opened Edgewood Boys Ranch in Orlando, FL. Through prayer and loving care, boys were given a safe environment in which to change

the direction their life was headed. In 1968, a generous donation of 110 acres was given by “Aunt” Minnie Rouse to be the permanent site for the Ranch. In following years, the Ranch added girls to its program and is now called the Edgewood Children’s Ranch. Through this residential program for boys and girls ages 6-17, the Ranch today is able to accommodate more than 70 students at a time. Yet the methods and goals are the same as in 1966-love and prayer, bringing about changed hearts and lives.

Making Positive Impact Through Volunteering

We are so grateful to the Orlando Health team for volunteering at Edgewood Children’s Ranch by providing a Chipotle dinner for our Ranchers and serving the meal to them.

Their kindness, encouragement, and willingness to spend time with our children made the evening special. Volunteers help create moments of connection, care, and hope, and we are thankful for community partners like Orlando Health who show up with a heart to serve.

In Aunt Julie’s class, students are learning how to think deeply, communicate clearly, and see the world through new perspectives. Through stories, discussion, vocabulary, writing, and reflection, literature helps our students build skills that reach far beyond the classroom.

Aunt Julie’s Literature Class helps students:

✨ Strengthen reading comprehension
✨ Build vocabulary and writing skills
✨ Develop critical thinking
✨ Grow in confidence as they share ideas
✨ Learn empathy by seeing life through different characters and experiences
✨ Practice meaningful discussion and respectful listening

Every book becomes an opportunity to learn, grow, and discover. We are so thankful for teachers like Aunt Julie who make learning personal, encouraging, and purposeful for our students at Edgewood Academy.

Looking Back on a Beautiful Day of New Life

We are still grateful for the special moments we witnessed as several of our children at Edgewood Children’s Ranch were baptized by our Executive Director, Pastor Jeff Fitzgerald.

Baptism is a powerful picture of new life in Christ, and this day was filled with joy, faith, and hope. As we look back on this meaningful event, we celebrate the courage of our Ranchers as they took this important step in their walk with Jesus.

We are thankful for every person who helps create a place where children can experience love, truth, healing, and the hope found in Christ.

Today, we pause in solemn remembrance.

On Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the enduring legacy they leave behind.

With gratitude and respect, we also hold in our hearts the families, loved ones, and communities who continue to carry their memory.

At Edgewood Children’s Ranch, we join in remembering those who gave all for our freedom.

Break time brought out some serious pool table talent today!

Our boys had fun showing focus, friendly competition, and plenty of laughs between classes. Moments like these give our ranchers a chance to relax, build friendships, and enjoy being kids.

We love seeing confidence grow in the classroom and around the table.

At Edgewood Children’s Ranch, every step forward is worth celebrating.

Our 3rd Quarter Night of Celebration was a special time to recognize our ranchers for the goals they achieved in academics, cottage life, and family care. These accomplishments represent hard work, growth, perseverance, and the daily support of teachers, cottage parents, family care staff, volunteers, and donors who believe in each child’s future.

We are so proud of our students and grateful for the opportunity to celebrate their progress. Each goal reached is another step toward healing, confidence, and lasting success.

Baptism is a public declaration of faith and a powerful symbol of new life in Christ. For many of our children, this moment represents a turning point in their lives, a step of hope, healing, and trust in God’s plan for their story.
