❤️🩹 After a year of extremely complex medical treatment and rehabilitation in the United States, severely wounded Ukrainian warrior Volodymyr Shkul has successfully completed his medical treatment with Revived Soldiers Ukraine and returned to Ukraine!
Volodymyr is a service member of the 156th Separate Mechanized Brigade. After being mobilized, he underwent military training in the United Kingdom and joined the defense of Ukraine.
💥 On June 13, 2025, while carrying out a combat mission near Yunakivka in the Sumy region, Volodymyr sustained extremely severe shrapnel injuries during a mortar attack. His injuries resulted in severe abdominal trauma and numerous complications. Volodymyr experienced clinical death twice, remained in a coma for an extended period, and underwent several complex surgeries in Ukraine.
Due to the severity of his injuries and prolonged coma, Volodymyr also developed serious neurological complications that led to severe contractures in both legs and his left arm. He urgently required not only further surgical treatment but also continuous medical supervision and specialized rehabilitation, which could not be provided in Ukraine.
✈️ In October 2025, the Revived Soldiers Ukraine team medically evacuated Volodymyr Shkul to the United States under the medical supervision of Colonel Vitalii Haniuk, an anesthesiologist at the Kyiv Military Hospital.
Volodymyr was one of six severely wounded Ukrainian service members transported to the United States aboard a private Bombardier Global 6000 aircraft during the largest and most complex medical evacuation in our organization’s history. The total cost of the evacuation was $151,000.

🇺🇸 Throughout his year in Chicago, Volodymyr underwent comprehensive medical treatment at University of Illinois Chicago Hospital under the supervision of Revived Soldiers Ukraine Medical Director and surgeon Dr. Yevhen Pavelko and his team.
One of the most important goals was to perform a complex intestinal reconstructive surgery and colostomy reversal. Preparation for this procedure lasted seven months and included continuous medical monitoring, intravenous infusions, dressing changes, numerous examinations, laboratory tests, and specialist consultations.
❤️🩹 On May 28, 2026, Professor Pier Cristoforo Giulianotti, a world-renowned surgeon at UIC Hospital, successfully performed a complex colostomy reversal and intestinal reconstruction surgery on Volodymyr.
This surgical procedure became one of the most important milestones in Volodymyr’s treatment in the United States. Despite the complexity of the operation, Professor Giulianotti successfully completed all planned surgical procedures and achieved the intended results.
It was particularly meaningful that, during those same days, Ukrainian military surgeons from the Kyiv Military Hospital were undergoing training on the da Vinci robotic surgical system at UIC Hospital. Among them were Kostiantyn Humeniuk, the current Commander of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and Lieutenant Colonel Artem Kobirnichenko.
Both doctors were present during Volodymyr’s surgery, observed Professor Giulianotti’s work, and received detailed explanations regarding the complex surgical procedure.

🏥 In addition to treatment for his severe abdominal trauma, Volodymyr received specialized urological and neurological care in the United States.
During medical examinations, Volodymyr was diagnosed with kidney stone disease (urolithiasis). The urology team at UIC Hospital provided the necessary treatment, including ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy — a minimally invasive procedure used to break up stones in the urinary tract.
We sincerely thank Dr. Rohan Sharma and the UIC Hospital urology team!
Another challenging aspect of Volodymyr’s treatment involved managing neurological complications and severe contractures in both legs and his left arm, which developed following his severe combat injuries and prolonged coma.
Throughout the year, Volodymyr remained under the care of neurologists. Approximately every three months, he received botulinum toxin injections to reduce muscle spasticity and pain associated with the contractures.
We thank Dr. Jonathan Bundy and the neurology team for their continuous medical supervision and assistance in alleviating Volodymyr’s condition.
❤️🩹 New Summit Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Chicago played an especially important role in Volodymyr’s recovery. He resided at this rehabilitation center throughout his entire year of treatment.
There, Volodymyr received professional, around-the-clock nursing care, essential assistance with daily activities, and support throughout his prolonged postoperative recovery.
We are sincerely grateful to the entire New Summit Rehabilitation and Healthcare team for their exceptional care, attention to our warrior’s needs, and constant dedication to his health and well-being.
We extend special gratitude to Ms. Mariya Kondyukh, Director of Nursing at the rehabilitation center, for her personal assistance, support, and efforts in coordinating Volodymyr’s medical treatment and rehabilitation throughout this difficult year.
💙💛 An exceptionally important part of Volodymyr’s recovery was the daily work of a team of volunteer rehabilitation specialists who came together to help our Defender.
Recognizing the complexity of his condition and the need for continuous physical rehabilitation, these specialists independently organized a weekly therapy schedule. Throughout the year, they visited Volodymyr every day, providing qualified assistance free of charge. They worked to reduce the effects of contractures in both legs and his left arm, maintain mobility, and improve his physical comfort.
The team of volunteer rehabilitation specialists was brought together and led by .makar.2025. Working alongside him, the following specialists provided Volodymyr with daily assistance:

🇺🇦 In early October 2026, exactly one year after arriving in the United States, Volodymyr Shkul successfully returned to Ukraine!
His medical evacuation back to Ukraine also took place under the supervision of Colonel Vitalii Haniuk, an anesthesiologist at the Kyiv Military Hospital, who had accompanied Volodymyr during his evacuation to the United States one year earlier.
We sincerely thank Colonel Vitalii Haniuk for his professionalism, dedication, and medical supervision of our Defender during both challenging flights.
After a year of comprehensive medical treatment in the United States, Volodymyr returned home, having successfully overcome one of the most difficult stages of his recovery. However, the consequences of his severe combat injuries and neurological complications will require further rehabilitation in Ukraine.
For the Revived Soldiers Ukraine team, Volodymyr Shkul’s story is the result of the collective efforts of dozens of doctors, surgeons, medical professionals, rehabilitation specialists, benefactors, and volunteers who united their efforts throughout the year to help one Ukrainian warrior.

❤️🩹 Після року надскладного лікування та реабілітації у США важкопоранений український воїн Володимир Шкуль успішно завершив лікування з Revived Soldiers Ukraine та повернувся в Україну!
Володимир — військовослужбовець 156-ї окремої механізованої бригади. Після мобілізації пройшов військову підготовку у Великій Британії та став на захист України.
💥 13 червня 2025 року під час виконання бойового завдання поблизу Юнаківки на Сумщині Володимир отримав надважке осколкове поранення внаслідок мінометного обстрілу. Поранення спричинило тяжку абдомінальну травму та численні ускладнення. Володимир двічі пережив клінічну смерть, тривалий час перебував у комі та переніс кілька складних операцій в Україні.
Через тяжкість поранення та тривале перебування в комі у військового також розвинулися серйозні неврологічні порушення, які призвели до виражених контрактур обох нижніх кінцівок та лівої руки. Володимир терміново потребував не лише подальшого хірургічного лікування, а й постійного медичного нагляду та спеціалізованої реабілітації, які було неможливо забезпечити в Україні.
✈️ У жовтні 2025 року команда Revived Soldiers Ukraine евакуювала Володимира Шкуля до США під медичним контролем анестезіолога Київського військового госпіталю полковника Віталія Ганюка.
Володимир став одним із шести важкопоранених українських військових, яких доставили до США на борту приватного літака Bombardier Global 6000 під час найбільшої та найскладнішої медичної евакуації в історії нашої організації. Загальна вартість евакуації становила $151,000.

🇺🇸 Протягом року у Чикаго Володимир проходив комплексне лікування в UIC Hospital під контролем медичного директора Revived Soldiers Ukraine, хірурга Dr. Yevhen Pavelko та його команди.
Одним із найважливіших завдань було проведення складної реконструктивної операції на кишківнику та закриття колостоми. Підготовка до цього втручання тривала 7 місяців і включала постійний медичний контроль, внутрішньовенні інфузії, перев’язки, численні обстеження, аналізи та консультації спеціалістів.
❤️🩹 28 травня 2026 року професор Pier Cristoforo Giulianotti, всесвітньо відомий хірург UIC Hospital, успішно провів Володимиру складну операцію із закриття колостоми та реконструкції кишківника.
Це хірургічне втручання стало одним із найважливіших етапів лікування Володимира у США. Попри складність операції, професору Джуліанотті вдалося виконати весь запланований обсяг втручання та досягти необхідних результатів.
Символічно, що в ці дні у UIC Hospital проходили навчання на роботизованій хірургічній системі da Vinci українські військові хірурги з Київського військового госпіталю — чинний Командувач Медичних Сил ЗСУ Костянтин Гуменюк та підполковник Артем Кобірніченко. Обидва лікарі були присутні під час операції Володимира, спостерігали за роботою професора Giulianotti та отримували пояснення щодо проведення складного хірургічного втручання.
🙏 Щиро дякуємо професору Pier Cristoforo Giulianotti, Dr. Yevhen Pavelko та всій команді UIC Hospital за професійний підхід та постійну підтримку нашого Захисника.
🏥 Окрім лікування тяжкої абдомінальної травми, Володимир отримав у США спеціалізовану урологічну та неврологічну допомогу.
Під час обстежень у нього було виявлено сечокам’яну хворобу. Команда урологів UIC Hospital провела необхідне лікування, зокрема уретероскопію з лазерною літотрипсією — малоінвазивну процедуру дроблення каменів у сечовивідних шляхах. Щиро дякуємо Dr. Rohan Sharma та команді урологів UIC Hospital!
Окремим складним напрямком залишалося лікування неврологічних порушень та виражених контрактур обох ніг і лівої руки, які розвинулися після важкої бойової травми та тривалого перебування в комі.
Протягом року Володимир перебував під наглядом неврологів. Приблизно кожні три місяці йому проводили ін’єкції ботулотоксину для зменшення м’язової спастичності та болю, пов’язаного з контрактурами. Дякуємо Dr. Jonathan Bundy та команді неврологів за постійний медичний супровід і допомогу в полегшенні стану Володимира.
❤️🩹 Особливу роль у відновленні Володимира відіграв реабілітаційний центр New Summit Rehabilitation and Healthcare у Чикаго, де він проживав протягом усього року лікування. Саме тут Володимир отримував цілодобовий професійний догляд медичного персоналу, необхідну допомогу в повсякденному житті та підтримку під час тривалого післяопераційного відновлення.
Ми щиро вдячні всій команді New Summit Rehabilitation and Healthcare за бездоганний догляд, увагу до потреб нашого воїна та постійну турботу про його здоров’я.
Окрема велика подяка пані Mariya Kondyukh, директорці з питань сестринської справи реабілітаційного центру, за особисту допомогу, підтримку та сприяння в організації лікування й реабілітації Володимира протягом усього цього складного року.
💙💛 Надзвичайно важливою частиною відновлення Володимира стала щоденна робота команди реабілітологів-волонтерів, які об’єдналися заради допомоги нашому Захиснику.
Розуміючи складність його стану та необхідність постійної фізичної реабілітації, фахівці самостійно організували графік занять на весь тиждень. Протягом року вони щодня приходили до Володимира, безоплатно надавали кваліфіковану допомогу, працювали над зменшенням наслідків контрактур обох ніг і лівої руки, підтриманням рухливості та полегшенням його фізичного стану.
Команду реабілітологів-волонтерів об’єднав та очолив Andrew Makar. Разом із ним щоденну допомогу Володимиру забезпечували:

Щиро дякуємо полковнику Віталію Ганюку за професіоналізм, відповідальність та медичний супровід нашого Захисника під час обох складних перельотів.
Після року комплексного лікування у США Володимир повернувся додому, успішно подолавши один із найскладніших етапів свого відновлення. Водночас наслідки важкого бойового поранення та неврологічні порушення потребуватимуть подальшої реабілітації в Україні.
Для команди Revived Soldiers Ukraine історія Володимира Шкуля — це результат спільної роботи десятків лікарів, хірургів, медичних працівників, реабілітологів, благодійників та волонтерів, які протягом року об’єднали свої зусилля заради одного українського воїна.
