Rotary Club of Orange Park Sunset

Rotary Club of Orange Park Sunset The Rotary Club of Orange Park Sunset meets every Tuesday evening alternating in-person and virtual. Why Join Rotary?

1. Everyone needs to network.

Friendship / Fellowship / Community: In an increasingly complex world, Rotary provides one of the most basic human needs: the need for friendship and fellowship. It is one of two reasons why Rotary began in 1905.

2. Business Development: The second original reason for Rotary's beginning is business development. Rotary consists of a cross-section of every business community. Its members come from

all walks of life. Rotarians help each other and collectively help others.

3. Personal Growth and Development: Membership in Rotary ensures continuing growth and education in human relations and personal development.

4. Leadership Development: Rotary is an organization of leaders and successful people. Serving in Rotary positions is like a college education. Leadership is all about learning how to motivate, influence and lead leaders.

5. Citizenship in the Community: Membership in a Rotary club helps develop better community citizens. The average Rotary club consists of the most active citizens of any community.

6. Continuing Education: Each week at Rotary, there is a program designed to keep members informed about what is going on in the community, nation, and world. Each meeting provides an opportunity to listen to different speakers on a variety of timely topics.

7. Fun: Rotary is a fun and exciting place to be.

8. Prestige: Rotary members are prominent people: leaders of business, the professions, art, government, sports, military, religion, and all disciplines. Rotary is the oldest and most prestigious service club in the world. Its ranks include executives, managers, and professionals - people who make decisions and influence policy.

9. Citizenship in the World: Every Rotarian wears a pin that says "Rotary International." There are few places on the globe that do not have a Rotary club. Every Rotarian is welcome - even encouraged - to attend any of the 30,000 clubs in 194 nations and geographical regions. This encourages new friendships in both local and world communities.

10. Assistance When Traveling: Traveling Rotarians can secure medical and professional assistance as well as services and advice from fellow Rotarians throughout the world.

11. Public Speaking Skills: Many individuals who joined Rotary were uncomfortable about speaking in public. Rotary develops confidence and skill in public communication and the opportunity to practice and perfect these skills.

12. Entertainment: Every Rotary club and district has parties and activities that contribute to a diverse, yet professional business life. Rotary holds conferences, conventions, assemblies, and institutes that provide entertainment in addition to Rotary information, education, and service.

13. Development of Social Skills: Every week and at various events and functions, Rotary develops one's personality, social skills, and people skills. Rotary is for people who like people.

14. Family Programs: Rotary provides one of the world's largest youth exchange programs; high school and college clubs for future Rotarians; opportunities for spouse involvement; and a host of activities designed to help family members in growth and the development of family values.

15. Vocational Skills: Every Rotarian is expected to take part in the growth and development of his or her own profession or vocation; to serve on committees and to teach youth about jobs or vocations. Rotary helps to make everyone a better doctor, lawyer, teacher, etc.

16. The Development of Ethics: Rotarians practice a 4ยฌWay Test that governs their ethical standards. Rotarians are expected to be ethical in business and personal relationships.

17. Cultural Awareness: Around the world, practically every religion, country, culture, race, creed, political persuasion, language, color and ethnic identity is represented among members of Rotary. Rotary is a cross section of the world's most prominent citizens who are aware of their cultures and have developed a love of working with people everywhere. They become better citizens of their countries in the process.

18. Nice People: Rotarians are the nicest people on the face of the earth.

19. Absence of an Official Creed: Rotary has no secret handshake, no official creed, no secret meetings, or rituals. It is an open society of men and women who simply believe in helping others.

20. Opportunity to Serve: As a service club, Rotary's business is mankind, and its product is service. This is perhaps the best reason for becoming a Rotarian: the chance to do good.

๐ŸŒŸ Meet our upcoming speaker: Bill Lewis of Xtreme IT and the Riverside Rotary Club.

We are excited to welcome a fellow Rotarian whose career bridges two very different worlds: keeping Northeast Florida small businesses online, and helping the broadcast crews who bring Jaguars football into your living room.

Bill is a Jacksonville native. He attended The Bolles School, graduated from Wolfson High School in 1982, and studied computer science at the University of Florida and the University of North Florida. He and his wife, Teresa, moved their family back home from South Carolina in 2000, and today they live in Argyle Forest with daughters Bethany and Alyssa.

In 2007, Bill teamed up with business partner Rick Kane to launch Xtreme IT, a Jacksonville firm providing computer and network support for small businesses and residential clients across the area. On game days, you might also find him on the sidelines: since December 2008, he has worked as a television sports broadcast utility in Jacksonville, Gainesville, and Orlando, after starting in the Jaguars' press box in 2005, supporting Wi-Fi for the working press.

๐ŸŒŸ This past Tuesday, Della Sellers, founder of Girls of Virtue & Virtue Consulting, with office manager, Gina Polite, shared a story that stopped the room.

Della grew up in poverty, attended a dropout prevention high school, and spent 25 years in the automotive industry before answering a call she could not shake: use her success to help young women growing up just like she did.

What started as a 10% tithe from her consulting business has become a Jacksonville nonprofit now reaching over 500 students across four high schools, including dropout-prevention campuses, through a three-level model: Engage, Equip, and Empower.
Girls of Virtue pairs young women with mentors, vocational trade certifications, and one-on-one coaching in finance, mental health, and nutrition.
In 2026, they launched Men of Vision to bring the same model to young men, and 12 Blocks Unites Us to connect students directly to case management through Duval County Public Schools.

"For some kids, there's no ladder to grow. I'm looking for the one that's fighting to get to the ladder, and I just want to add a few steps for them."
-Della Sellers, Founder, Girls of Virtue

Welcome to the Rotary Family, Elizabeth Dakens! ๐ŸŽ‰

The Rotary Club of Orange Park Sunset is thrilled to officially welcome our newest member, Elizabeth Dakens, Regional Vice President of ValuTeachers! ๐Ÿ“š

Elizabeth was formally inducted on March 17th, where she was pinned with the Rotary emblem and presented with her membership materials, a moment that had everyone smiling! ๐Ÿ˜Š

After her induction, Elizabeth gave an eye-opening presentation about her work with ValuTeachers and National Life Group. Here are some powerful takeaways:

๐Ÿ“Œ ValuTeachers was founded by a retired teacher in Atlanta who discovered her pension alone wasn't enough to retire comfortably. She turned that experience into a company of 2,000 employees operating in nearly all 50 states.

๐Ÿ“Œ In Florida, teachers' FRS pensions typically replace only about 48% of their working income. A 403(b) plan is an optional benefit teachers can use to bridge that gap.

๐Ÿ“Œ Clay County participation in 403(b) plans is below the national average of 33-34%, meaning many local educators are leaving retirement security on the table.

๐Ÿ“Œ Elizabeth personally serves 13 schools in Duval County and covers all of Clay County, going school to school to educate teachers about their retirement options.

๐Ÿ“Œ National Life Group, the company behind ValuTeachers' plans, holds top ratings from all three major rating agencies and has been in business for 170 years, serving 1.3 million customers with $40 billion under management.

Elizabeth, your passion for helping educators secure their futures is exactly the kind of service spirit Rotary is built on. We are so glad to have you!

The Rotary Club of Orange Park Sunset was honored to welcome Francine Juhlin, founder of Believe Retreat Publishing and the Confidence Club for Kids, for an inspiring presentation on the power of storytelling and publishing to create lasting impact.

Francine shared how personal storytelling can help individuals build confidence, connect with audiences, and amplify their message. Drawing from her journeyโ€”from military aircraft electrician to speaker, author, and publisherโ€”she demonstrated how powerful stories can transform lives and open doors for coaching, leadership, and personal growth.

๐Ÿ“– One exciting initiative she highlighted is a collaborative anthology project featuring 23 authors, each contributing a chapter of their story. This unique approach encourages creatives and professionals to support one another, expand their audiences, and strengthen community connections through shared narratives.

๐Ÿ’ก Francine also emphasized the legacy value of personal storiesโ€”how capturing and publishing experiences can preserve family heritage, inspire future generations, and even reach unexpected audiences around the world through platforms like Kindle.

Through innovative tools, collaborative โ€œportal parties,โ€ and a blend of AI-assisted editing with professional publishing standards, Francine is helping people turn their stories into meaningful impact.

๐Ÿค The evening also highlighted how collaboration among community leaders and service organizations strengthens fundraising, partnerships, and service initiativesโ€”showing once again how storytelling can unite people around a shared mission.

Thank you, Francine, for inspiring our club to recognize the value of our own stories and the power they hold to encourage, connect, and create lasting change.
