"According to Psychologists, there are four types of Intelligence:

1) Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
2) Emotional Quotient (EQ)
3) Social Quotient (SQ)
4) Adversity Quotient (AQ)

1. Intelligence Quotient (IQ): this is the measure of your level of comprehension. You need IQ to solve math's, memorize things, and recall lessons.

2. Emotional Quotient (EQ): this is the measure of your ability to maintain peace with others, keep to time, be responsible, be honest, respect boundaries, be humble, genuine and considerate.

3. Social Quotient (SQ): this is the measure of your ability to build a network of friends and maintain it over a long period of time.

People that have higher EQ and SQ tend to go further in life than those with a high IQ but low EQ and SQ. Most schools capitalize on improving IQ levels while EQ and SQ are played down.

A man of high IQ can end up being employed by a man of high EQ and SQ even though he has an average IQ.

Your EQ represents your Character, while your SQ represents your Charisma. Give in to habits that will improve these three Qs, especially your EQ and SQ.

Now there is a 4th one, a new paradigm:

4. The Adversity Quotient (AQ): The measure of your ability to go through a rough patch in life, and come out of it without losing your mind.

When faced with troubles, AQ determines who will give up, who will abandon their family, and who will consider su***de.

Develop their IQ, as well as their EQ, SQ, and AQ. They should become multifaceted human beings able to do things independently of their parents."

“Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists they can become the best they can be.”

Frequently, when professionals and parents come to the table to discuss a child, the discussion centers around a child’s behavior. But research has shown that behaviors are manifestations of something deeper. Something that needs to be addressed. What’s happened to the child? How had it impacted their brain and their ability to self-regulate? When these things are truly addressed there are many kids whose behaviors improve but more importantly they become happier. Families become happier and it is beautiful to watch. Self-regulation is the ability to understand and manage your behavior and your reactions to feelings and things happening around you. SEDNET Region 4’s posts will be centering around the topic of working with your whole child and yourself. Please join and learn different ways to deal with self-regulation.

The most traumatic aspects of all disasters involve the shattering of human connections. And this is especially true for children. Being harmed by the people who are suppose to love you, being abandoned by them, being robbed of the one to one relationships that allow you to feel safe and valued and to become humane; these are profoundly destructive experiences.

As a result, recovery from trauma and neglect is also all about relationships; rebuilding trust, regaining confidence, returning to a sense of security and reconnecting to love. Of course, medications can help relieve symptoms and talking to a therapist can be incredibly useful. But healing and recovery are impossible; even with the best medications and therapy in the world; without lasting, caring connections to others.
