The theme of this meeting is "Boss's Day" which will be celebrated (or rebuked?) Thursday, October 16, 2026.

Everyone has had a boss at some point. Come share some boss stories (the good, the bad and the unbelievable are all welcome) at the next Oneonta Toastmasters meeting Thursday, October 8 at 6PM. Our theme that evening is Boss's Day (celebrated October 16.)

Each meeting has a different theme to help give a littler personality to each evening. It gives speakers and participants something to connect their roles to and can make it more memorable.

A recent theme of "Memorable Birthdays" led us to an epic speech that literally took us on a wild ride on a brand new bike and down a hill directly into a large septic tank hole. Probably not what everyone wants to remember as a memorable birthday, but this moment gave the speaker a great idea for a speech (and some scars.)

Come by a meeting and hear the current members deliver speeches, enjoy impromptu speaking with Table Topics and see how you can improve your communication and listening!

During each Toastmasters meeting one person will present the Word of the Day. This can be any word and throughout the meeting members are encouraged to use during their speeches and conversations. (You get special bonus points for using it from that week's grammarian)
This is a simple way to help members, expand their vocabulary, practice speaking spontaneously and become more comfortable using new words.
It's also just fun!

Can you use last week's Word of the Day in a comment below?
We'll give you ample time to come up with something!

Did you miss last week's meeting? Have no fear we meet twice a month. Stop by and visit us Thursday, September 24 at 6PM at the Green Earth Community Room. Our meetings are hybrid so check us out via zoom if that's easier!

Last week's Word of the Day was brought to us by Darcy, our newest member. The word was "Inception" and everyone got special bonus points for using it that meeting. The word of the day helps us expand our vocabulary one word at a time; plus it's fun to see how many times you can use it during a meeting.

Check out next week's meeting to see what the Word of the Day will next time!

What is Toastmasters International?

Toastmasters is a nonprofit educational organization that builds confidence and teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of local clubs. That's the official definition, and it may sound a little dry and boring, but we promise that Oneonta Toastmasters is anything but boring.

Come check out a meeting and see how Toastmasters can help you improve your public speaking, listening, storytelling, leadership and more! We meet 2nd and 4th Thursday at 6PM at the Green Earth in Oneonta and via Zoom. Check out our website for more information! https://oneonta.toastmastersclubs.org
