The Washington State 2020 legislative session is just a week away and YWCA & the Statewide Poverty Action Network are inviting community members to participate in our advocacy program for the upcoming legislative session. This is a time when our state representatives come together to write bills that turn into laws. During this time we can use advocacy as a tool, by sharing your experiences and perspectives with our representatives can shape the laws that effect our lives and our communities.

We want to know what’s important to you. What are your experiences with housing? What do you want your state representatives to know about your life? What do you think are some of the solutions to the problems we are all facing?

During this hands-on program we will learn about anti-poverty legislation and how you can share your experiences and perspectives. Our activities will include visiting the Capitol every other Wednesday to learn about bills, meet with our representatives, and learning about sharing your experiences and possibly testifying. Sharing your experiences and perspectives can help shape the laws and policies that are impacting our lives, now and in the future.

We will meet every other Wednesday at YWCA (220 Union Ave SE Olympia, WA). Here’s the schedule:

• Wednesday, January 15th, 11 am-1 pm
• Wednesday, January, 29th, 11 am-1 pm
• Wednesday, February, 12th, 11 am-1 pm
• Wednesday, February, 26th, 11 am-1 pm
• Wednesday, March, 11th, 11 am- 1 pm
