We’re looking past the rain…

…to a crisp October weekend in Old Lyme, the leaves turning along Lyme Street, and four extraordinary musicians taking the stage inside the historic First Congregational Church as we begin our 36th Season.

There’s something special about opening weekend. Familiar faces. Old friends returning to the stage. World-class musicians just a few feet away. And the beginning of another season of extraordinary music in Old Lyme.

So while the rain comes down this weekend, we’re thinking ahead to October 10 & 11.

Radiant, expressive, and a longtime Musical Masterworks favorite.

Pianist Jeewon Park returns to Old Lyme on October 10th & 11th for our Season 36 opening concerts.

Jeewon has graced the Musical Masterworks stage for decades, captivating audiences with performances marked by extraordinary warmth, sensitivity, and artistry. This opening weekend, she'll join Tessa Lark, Edward Arron, and Melissa Reardon for a program exploring one fascinating question: What makes music sound American?

And we'll get to hear Jeewon shine in Dvořák's magnificent Piano Quartet No. 2 in E-flat Major, a fitting finale to a program filled with musical influences, connections, and discovery.

Some artists perform on our stage. Others become part of our story.

For decades, cellist Edward Arron has been part of the Musical Masterworks family, first as a beloved performer and for many years as our Artistic Director.

This October, our Artistic Director Emeritus returns to Old Lyme to help open Season 36, joining Tessa Lark, Jeewon Park and Melissa Reardon for a program exploring one fascinating question: What makes music sound American?

For those who remember so many extraordinary performances with Ed over the years, this opening weekend will feel a little like a homecoming.

And we can’t wait to welcome him back.

Bluegrass? The blues? Copland? Contemporary music? Maybe all of the above.

Every season has special moments. Here are three we're particularly excited to share as we look ahead to Musical Masterworks' 36th season.

A Musical Masterworks first — the magnificent organ of the First Congregational Church of Old Lyme takes center stage in a program curated by Caleb Hudson and featuring organist Greg Zelek.

A rising star — 18-year-old cellist Starla Breshears, First Prize Winner of the 2026 Irving M. Klein International Strings Competition, makes her Musical Masterworks debut.

A masterpiece returns — Mendelssohn's exhilarating String Octet returns to our stage for the first time in more than a decade, and even inspired the artwork for our Season 36 program cover.

And that's just the beginning. We can't wait to welcome you back this fall.
