CT Botanical Society

CT Botanical Society We are Botanists and people seriously interested in learning about plants and plant ID, preserving/promoting native flora in CT and surrounding areas.

1) Building awareness of the botanical resources in other CT groups' beloved places, and in the neighborhoods of our members.

2) To have a site where people feel comfortable posting photos of plants and asking for help with ID, to encourage hands-on botany.

3) From a practical standpoint, a place to post weather updates and supplemental directions for the nearly weekly CBS field trips, a

nd lectures and indoor programs as well.

4) A place to share informal photos of botanists exploring together, to increase membership and build our sense of camaraderie.

5) A place to resolve serious identification challenges or post photos of new varieties -- for scientific feedback from the experts among us.

We had a great first field trip of 2026 at the Ravine Trail in Lyme. The weather was perfect and we saw lots of plants.

Will you be attending the Connecticut Land Conservation Council Conference on March 21? Gail Reynolds and Sigrun Gadwa from the CT Botanical Society Board will be presenting on taking the next steps for using native plants.

Hope to see you there!

Many have wonderfully embraced native plants for re-vegetation, restoration, and other plantings. What’s missing is ecological synchronization with the local landscape. Plants advertised as native are often not truly native to CT, or are cultivars, which are not as ecologically appropriate as wild...

Saturday, May 3, 2025, Field Trip Is a GO!

Note from trip leader Juan Sanchez:

Sigrun and I are still planning to lead the trip. However, a few changes. We will be there for any one that wishes to brave the overcast weather. We will meet in the parking lot behind the
Colebrook Town Hall. We will not visit MT Pisgah Rd., instead we will travel about three miles to a private site as it has a rich variety of botanicals. That said we will be on a hill side and lower trail so dress appropriately for the weather and we suggest a walking stick may be helpful for some people. We are hoping to get the morning in before and serious rain or storms come along. The private site has flush toilets that we may use and I will bring waivers to sign before we head out into the field. Please to meet us by 10 AM.

FIELD TRIP DATE CHANGE

Due to the impending heavy rain forecast for this Saturday, April 26, 2025, the field trip to Colebrook has been changed to Saturday, May 3, 2025. The starting time of 10 am remains the same.
