We’re not done working for Johnson County seniors to age safely at home!

Our eldercare work started by listening to Johnson Countians - and it led to the CAPABLE pilot helping seniors stay safely and independently in their homes.

Now our 6th annual Listening Process is underway, with 1,000 Johnson Countians expected to share what’s affecting their lives.

We listen. We organize. We act.

And we’re just getting started.

🏠 "There are hundreds of people in this community right now who are one fall, one setback, one accident, away from losing their independence."

That's Kay Findlay, who spent months visiting Johnson County homes as a clinical specialist for CAPABLE, a program that fixes the physical barriers keeping older adults from living safely on their own. Kansas ranks 47th out of 48 states for the share of nursing home residents who need only minimal care — people who can still cook, clean and use the bathroom on their own.

Assisted living and nursing home costs in the Kansas City area run from over $2,000 to more than $10,000 a month. CAPABLE ran about $4,000 total per person.

The Johnson County pilot ended in April, and the interfaith Good Faith Network is now pitching managed care organizations to fund a new one.

Nearly 100 team leaders joined us tonight at the 6th Annual GFN listening process kickoff! Our biggest kickoff EVER! We also welcomed six new congregations to their first Good Faith Network listening process.

Special thanks to Village Presbyterian Church for hosting us.

Together, more than 30 faith communities will engage nearly 1,000 Johnson Countians in conversations that will identify the next issue we organize to change.

Wondering how Good Faith Network chooses its issue campaigns? Good question! Right now, we are working to:

~End homelessness
~Create more affordable housing
~Help older adults age safely in place
~Increase access to crisis stabilization and mental health care

And this fall, we will choose a new issue to add to that work.

The process begins inside every member congregation. Through listening sessions, people share the pressures affecting their families, neighbors, and communities. We gather those stories from across the network, identify common themes, and bring them to our Community Problems Assembly.

There, leaders from every participating congregation vote together on which issue should become Good Faith Network’s next campaign.

We listen broadly, discern together, research carefully, and act collectively. And we can't wait to see you at a listening session this fall!

Good Faith Network is thrilled to welcome five Catholic parishes this fall!

~Good Shepherd Catholic Church
~Prince of Peace Catholic Church
~St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church
~St. Paul Catholic Church
~Saint Pius X Catholic

With their participation, the Good Faith Network is now more than 30 congregations strong! Together, all of our member congregations will take part in a countywide listening process - hearing the concerns, hopes, and experiences of people across Johnson County and identifying a new issue campaign to add to GFN’s portfolio.

These parishes bring a crucial Catholic voice to that process and will strengthen our ability to discern where in our community collective action is needed most.

We are excited to welcome them into this growing network and into our shared work for justice!

🎉What a Celebration! 🎉

Special thanks to the Islamic Center of Johnson County for so graciously hosting Good Faith Network’s 5th Annual Celebration.

With more than 250 people in the room, we celebrated the leaders, congregations, and networks who have spent this year building a powerful voice for justice in Johnson County.

Together, we raised more than $102,000 toward our campaign goal of $115,000 — an incredible show of commitment to keeping Good Faith Network member-owned and member-sustained!

We honored congregations who were exceptional in building public power, celebrated Redemption Church for the highest Nehemiah turnout, recognized Rev. Eileen Stulak for outstanding clergy leadership, and lifted up the 14 original team leaders who are still serving today.

What a gift to look around the room and see what we have built together — and what we are still building.

📣Islamic Center of Johnson County
📣Sunday, June 14
📣3:00 p.m.

We’ll gather to celebrate what organized people of faith made possible this year - our biggest Nehemiah Action ever, real progress on crisis care, affordable housing, and eldercare, and the leaders and congregations who carried this work forward.

We’ll also close out our individual investment drive and look ahead to the work still before us.

Today, Rev. Reid Kapple asked the County Commission to act with urgency: housing people isn't just the right thing to do - it's the fiscally responsible thing to do. Watch the video queued to his comments below.

When people are housed, emergency room visits, ambulance calls, and jail bookings go down. When people remain unhoused, taxpayers keep paying for crisis after crisis.

Good Faith Network is calling for a permanent source of funding for affordable housing before November. If a solution is good for people and good for public finances, we can't afford to wait.
