End of an era.đź’™

Not marked by the last step across a finish line, but by all that was carried along the way.

Years of our 5k mornings.

Of strangers becoming something more.

Of quiet acts of giving that asked for nothing in return.

You came - for Spencer.

For our veterans.

For a purpose that could be felt, even when it could not be named.

And in doing so, something beautifully lasting was formed.

The run now comes to its rest. As all things, in time, must.

But what was built, in hearts, in lives, in the unseen ways we change one another…

…does not end here.

It continues. As it always has. ♾️

With gratitude that words cannot fully hold,

~ Dale & Megan Duncan

Make It Count this Veteran’s Day

Today, we pause to honor all who have served - and to remember one of our own, Spencer C. Duncan, who gave his life serving our nation on August 6, 2011, when his helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan.

Spencer lived by three simple words: Make it count.

He carried that motto with him - in service, in sacrifice and in life.

At the Spencer C. Duncan Make It Count Foundation, we carry it forward by supporting veterans through education scholarships, entrepreneurship programs and post-traumatic stress recovery initiatives.

This Veterans Day, you can honor Spencer, and all those who serve, by helping us make it count for others.

Today, we honor the United States Marine Corps Reserve—born on August 29, 1916.

For over a century, Marine Reservists have played a vital role in defending our country. From World War I to today’s operations, these brave men and women have been there when our nation called. Their mission has been clear: augmenting active-duty forces during times of war, national emergencies, and peacekeeping operations.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the Marine Forces Reserve for their selfless service, and for their enduring commitment to freedom and security.

💙 On this day, let’s remember the Marine Corps Reserve's rich history and celebrate the ongoing contributions of these warriors—from WWII to today. We encourage you to thank a Marine Reservist, raise the flag, or simply take a moment to reflect on their unwavering dedication.

🎖 To all Marine Reservists, past and present—thank you for your service.

February 19th, 1990 – August 6th, 2011

The ringing of a doorbell will never be the same for our family. In the early evening of August 6, 2011, our lives changed forever when we opened the door to two uniformed Army officers. “Are you the parents of Spencer Colson Duncan?” There had to be some mistake. There was no way this young man, this child we loved so much, this little boy with the quick mind and quicker wit, this loyal friend, this caring family member, this proud dog owner could possibly cease to exist. We loved him too much for him to not be part of our lives.

Spencer had a very successful career as a big brother. He felt that it was his responsibility to introduce his brothers to the finer points of boyhood: climbing trees, swinging really high, and setting things on fire whenever possible. His sense of adventure was often grander than his ability to think through the consequences. From the beginning, Spencer was out to change the world. His infectious laugh and unlimited inquisitiveness captivated those around him. It was always fun to watch a waiter or waitress do a double take when that precocious two year old ordered Crab Rangoon. (Okay, he pronounced it “pram ramgoom,” but he got his point across.)
